Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

Prior to filing, the form 990 will be reviewed by the executive director, and then distributed to the full board and the finance committee for review.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The conflict of interest policy is monitored by the secretary of the board and signed by all the staff and board members with significant decision making authority. The conflict of interest policy is then reviewed and signed at the beginning of each fiscal year, however, it is each member's obligation to disclose any potential conflict as soon as it is know, or reasonably should be known.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The organization's key employee is the executive director. This position reports directly to the board of directors. The executive director's compensation was established by a subcommittee of the board of directors and subject to discussion and vote by the full board of directors. The organization purchased a compensation study to determine the compensation for similar positions at similar organizations. The records of the committee's work and the minutes of the meeting of the board of directors at which the agreement was approved reflect the research, deliberation, and decision.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The most recent form 990, bylaws, conflict of interest policy, and other governing documents are made available to the public upon request.

IRS990/Desc0SEE SCHEDULE O.2013 WAS BOTH A REWARDING AND CHALLENGING YEAR FOR 24 HOURS OF BOOTY. MORE THAN $1.2 MILLION WAS RAISED FOR CANCER NAVIGATION AND SURVIVORSHIP PROGRAMS, WHILE WE PROVIDED A PLATFORM FOR 2,000 RIDERS IN FOUR CITIES TO TELL THEIR STORIES AND LEARN MORE ABOUT CANCER SURVIVORSHIP PROGRAMS IN THEIR COMMUNITY. WE NAVIGATED A SERIES OF LOGISTICAL CHALLENGES THAT INCLUDED CHANGING VENUES AND ROUTES IN TWO CITIES, GROWING AN EVENT IN ITS SECOND YEAR AND RAISING MONEY IN MORE CHALLENGING FINANCIAL CONDITIONS. IN 2012, WE HAD TO CHANGE VENUES IN BOTH CHARLOTTE AND ATLANTA, WHICH RESULTED IN CHALLENGING ROUTES AND LOWER RIDER SATISFACTION. WHILE WE RESOLVED THE PROBLEMS IN 2013 AND RIDER SATISFACTION WAS BACK UP, THE ISSUES RESULTED IN LOWER RIDER RETENTION AND FUNDRAISING. DESPITE THE CHALLENGES, WE STILL HAD STRONG ACCOMPLISHMENTS, WHICH INCLUDED: 2013 CONTINUED THE PARTNERSHIP WE HAVE WITH LIVESTRONG, THE NATIONAL BENEFICIARY OF 24 HOURS OF BOOTY. PART OF THE FUNDS GRANTED WENT TO LIVESTRONG PATIENT NAVIGATION PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT CANCER SURVIVORS BY ADDRESSING INSURANCE, EMPLOYMENT AND FINANCIAL CONCERNS, PROVIDING EMOTIONAL AND PEER SUPPORT, UNDERSTANDING TREATMENT AND CLINICAL TRIAL OPTIONS, CONNECTING PEOPLE TO LOCAL RESOURCES AND UNDERSTANDING FERTILITY OPTIONS.24 HOURS OF BOOTY BEGAN A $1 MILLION COMMITMENT OVER THREE YEARS TO SUPPORT THE GENETICS, SURVIVORSHIP AND WELLNESS PROGRAM AT THE LEVINE CANCER INSTITUTE. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES IMPORTANT SERVICES TO PATIENTS UNDERGOING CANCER TREATMENT THAT ARE CONSIDERED NON-REIMBURSABLE BY INSURANCE. THESE SERVICES INCLUDE PATIENT NAVIGATION, ART THERAPY, SUPPORT GROUPS, YOGA AND TAI CHI, MASSAGE AND MORE. THE CAROLINAS CANCER WELLNESS PROGRAM POWERED BY 24 HOURS OF BOOTY WAS FUNDED FOR THE SIXTH YEAR. THE CANCER WELLNESS PROGRAM IS AN EIGHT-WEEK PROGRAM DESIGNED TO ASSIST IN MANAGING THE PHYSICAL SIDE EFFECTS OF CANCER TREATMENT FOR SURVIVORS DURING TREATMENT OR RECOVERY PHASES. PARTICIPANTS WORK WITH A REGISTERED NURSE AND A TRAINER WHO CREATE AN INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAM. IN 2013 THE PROGRAM WAS EXPANDED TO THREE ADDITIONAL SITES TO INCLUDE SURVIVORS IN OTHER PARTS OF MECKLENBURG AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES AND ADDITIONAL SESSIONS WERE ADDED TO ACCOMMODATE DEMAND. ALSO RECEIVING FUNDS IN CHARLOTTE, NC IS THE BRAIN TUMOR FUND CAROLINAS. THE BRAIN TUMOR FUND IS DEDICATED TO INCREASING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE IMPACT OF BRAIN TUMORS AND TO PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TREATMENT STRATEGIES AND COOPERATIVE BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH RELATED TO BRAIN TUMORS. 24 HOURS OF BOOTY HELPS TO FUND THEIR RESEARCH AND PATIENT NAVIGATION PROGRAMS IN THE CAROLINAS.24 HOURS OF BOOTY PARTNERED WITH THE ULMAN CANCER FUND FOR YOUNG ADULTS IN COLUMBIA, MD. FOR THE SIXTH YEAR. THE PATIENT NAVIGATION PROGRAM WE FUND HAS BEEN ABLE TO PLACE NAVIGATORS IN AREA HOSPITALS TO SUPPORT YOUNG ADULTS AGES 18-40 BATTLING CANCER. THEY BEGAN THEIR NAVIGATION PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND GREENEBAUM CANCER CENTER, BUT HAVE EXPANDED TO ADDITIONAL SITES, INCLUDE JOHNS HOPKINS HOSPITAL AND WALTER REED NATIONAL MILITARY MEDICAL CENTER. IN ATLANTA, THE AFLAC CANCER CENTER OF CHILDRENS HEALTHCARE OF ATLANTA RECEIVED A GRANT FOR THE FOURTH YEAR. THE AFLAC CANCER CENTER IS ONE OF THE PREMIER PEDIATRIC CANCER CENTERS IN THE COUNTRY. ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR WAS THE SECOND ANNUAL 24 HOURS OF BOOTY INDIANAPOLIS. WITH A GROWING RIDERSHIP, THE RIDE SHOWS GREAT PROMISE AND IS COMMITTED TO RAISING FUNDS FOR LOCAL BENEFICIARY, THE IU SIMON CANCER INSTITUTE. WIND RIVER CANCER WELLNESS RETREATS OFFERS CANCER SURVIVORS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET AWAY TO LEARN HOW TO BETTER MANAGE THE EMOTIONAL STRESS OF A CANCER DIAGNOSIS. 24 HOURS OF BOOTY PARTNERS WITH WIND RIVER TO FUND A RETREAT EACH YEAR AT NO COST TO CANCER SURVIVORS.
