Mission

Creating opportunities for those seeking recovery.foundation for recovery's vision is that addiction is recognized as a treatable disease and that individual and family recovery is seen as an acceptable and sought after means for achieving a balanced and healthy life. The foundation for recovery will help prepare and organize current and future educators, health care professionals, policy makers, and the general public to make this vision a reality. The foundation for recovery will promote and highlight the positive experiences of people in long-term recovery and focus on programs and initiatives on facilitating the benefits of recovery from addiction for the indiviuals, their families, friends, employers, and the community.

The foundation for recovery continued to make excellent strides in 2011 towards furthering its mission and vision, as well as expanding its programs and services. General program expenses in 2011 went toward the following initiatives:education and outreachthe foundation continues to maintain its facility, which includes a research, study and archive center, as well as a bookstore and classrooms utilized for professional education seminars, public education seminars, and use by 12-step and other support groups. The bookstore sells a multitude of products related to recovery to the general public, students and other organizations, promoting recovery related activities. The bookstore also carries a broad range of complimentary and discounted 12-step literature from narcotics anonymous, nar-anon, gamblers anonymous and overeater's anonymous. The bookstore serves as an information clearinghouse at no charge to the public, offering a variety of education and other informational materials and publications from various entities and partners, including the substance abuse and mental health services administration (samhsa), the department of education (doe), the partnership for a drug-free america, and faces and voices of recovery.the foundation for recovery's archive houses a large selection of recovery related memorabilia for viewing and use by the general public with interest in the history of recovery or recovery research. The archive contains thousands of individual pieces tracing the rich history of national and international recovery movements, offering a wealth of original source information to researchers and students.the rooms, an initiative of the foundation for recovery, makes meeting rooms available to the 12-step community, professional diversion, and other support groups. In addition, the rooms is the host site of workshops, speaker engagements, and special events. This classroom-style meeting space is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for support groups. Nominal rental is charged for these meetings based on the number of self-reported participants. In 2011, 12-step groups reported over 41,000 attendees to meetings held at the rooms, an increase of over 15% from the previous year. Schedules of meetings are regularly posted on the foundation for recovery and rooms websites for easy access.foundation for recovery held its 3rd annual recovery rally, which coincided with national recovery month. Over 400 community members with over a dozen community organizations participated in the event with featured recovery speakers along with local judicial and legislative representatives. The rooms also has lectures and presentations geared towards the recovery community, families and other interested parties.the foundation for recovery's public outreach efforts included several new initiatives which included bringing together a diverse group of more than 50 behavioral health providers, policy makers, non-profits, educators and other community leaders to initiate strategies for bringing recovery concepts and other recovery support services to nevada. In addition, the foundation partnered with cox communication, a&e network and the school district to lend our expertise to a live town hall meeting on the prescription drug epidemic. This live broadcast and its continued rebroadcasts, reached thousands of individuals in clark county. Other community partners and collaborations include pact, a drug prevention coalition made up of multiple non-profit, government, law enforcement, education and social service agencies; southern nevada mental health coalition; specialty court judges; southern nevada holistic health coalition; and veterans groups.in august of 2011, the foundation for recovery began the implementation process to bring a peer recovery support services to southern nevada. Ffr facilitated a training program for staff and community volunteers in recovery with approximately 20 individuals receiving 40 hours of training from

OUR PROGRAMS, SERVICES AND PARTNERSHIPS OPEN PATHWAYS FOR RECOVERY BY REMOVING SOCIAL BARRIERS AND CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE SEEKING RECOVERY.OUR VISION IS THAT ADDICTION IS RECOGNIZED AS A TREATABLE DISEASE AND THAT INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY RECOVERY IS SEEN AS AN ACCEPTABLE AND SOUGHT AFTER MEANS FOR ACHIEVING A BALANCED AND HEALTHY LIFE. THE FOUNDATION WILL HELP PREPARE AND ORGANIZE CURRENT AND FUTURE EDUCATORS, HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS, POLICY MAKERS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO MAKE THIS VISION A REALITY. THE FOUNDATION WILL PROMOTE AND HIGHLIGHT THE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES OF PEOPLE IN LONG-TERM RECOVERY AND FOCUS OUR PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES ON FACILITATING THE BENEFITS OF RECOVERY FROM ADDICTION FOR THE INDIVIDUAL, THEIR FAMILIES, FRIENDS, EMPLOYERS, AND THE COMMUNITY.

THE FACTORS USED TO MAKE THIS DETERMINATION INCLUDE BOARD DIVERSITY, A BONA FIDE CONTINUOUS PUBLIC SOLICITATIONS PROGRAM, AND SUPPORT BY A LARGE CROSS-SECTION OF THE COMMUNITY AND THE PROGRAMS, ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS FOR THE COMMUNITY BENEFIT. IN 2011, THE FOUNDATION FOR RECOVERY RECEIVED PUBLIC SUPPORT FROM APPROXIMATELY 150 SUPPORTERS WHO REPRESENT A DIVERSE GROUP, WHICH INCLUDES INDIVIDUALS, FOUNDATIONS, PRIVATE CORPORATIONS, AND UNIVERSITY FUNDS. INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTORS HAVE INCLUDED CIVIC LEADERS SUCH AS ELECTED OFFICIALS, CITY AND DISTRICT JUDGES, PRIVATE THERAPISTS, PHYSICIANS AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. A SAMPLING OF DONORS ARE PROVIDED BELOW:SDW LAW FIRM; ANCHOR CONSTRUCTION; GATSKI COMMERCIAL; JSA ARCHITECTS; CASAT (CENTER FOR THE APPLICATION OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE TECHNOLOGIES) AT UNIVERSITY OF RENO; THE UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, SCHOOL OF MEDICINE; SAM'S CLUB; ZUNINO ARCHITECTURE, ARIZONA CIVIL CONSTRUCTORS; ASPEN EDUCATION GROUP AND NUMEROUS OTHERS.THE FOUNDATION FOR RECOVERY HAS A DIVERSE BOARD OF DIRECTORS WHO REPRESENT THE BROAD INTERESTS OF THE PUBLIC IN ITS MISSION. THE BOARD CONSISTS OF PROFESSIONALS IN THE FIELD OF ADDICTION AS WELL AS THOSE IN THE FIELD OF ACCOUNTING, SALES AND MARKETING, AND MERCHANDISE/CLOTHING. THEIR CUMULATIVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE RECOVERY FIELD IS VAST AND INCLUDES MANAGEMENT IN BOTH PROFIT AND NON PROFIT ADDICTION AND MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT; LEADERSHIP POSITIONS ON NUMEROUS SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND RECOVERY BOARDS, INCLUDING THE NATIONAL BOARD OF FACES AND VOICES OF RECOVERY; 12-STEP FELLOWSHIP PARTICIPATION AND WORLDWIDE DEVELOPMENT; CLINICAL EXPERTISE; AND ARE RECOGNIZED EXPERTS IN THE HEALTHCARE FIELD INCLUDING PUBLISHED AUTHORS AND NATIONAL LECTURERS AND SPEAKERS. THESE INDIVIDUALS REPRESENT DIFFERENT REGIONS WITHIN THE UNITED STATES INCLUDING FLORIDA, ARIZONA, VIRGINIA, CALIFORNIA, WASHINGTON AND NEVADA. THE FOUNDATION FOR RECOVERY PROVIDES FACILITIES AND SERVICES DIRECTLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON A CONTINUOUS BASIS. THE SOUTHERN NEVADA RECOVERY RESOURCE DIRECTORY, A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES DISTRIBUTED TO NON-PROFITS, MEDICAL FACILITIES, LAW ENFORCEMENT, SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES, VETERAN GROUPS, COURTS, EDUCATORS, COUNSELORS, INDIVIDUALS AND OTHERS WHO REQUESTS COPIES WORKSHOPS FOR THE COMMUNITY ON CURRENT AND CRITICAL ISSUES TOPICS RELATED TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE. THESE WORKSHOPS INCLUDE PARENTS: YOU MATTER; MEDICATION USE SAFETY TRAINING (MUST) FOR SENIORS OR THEIR CAREGIVERS; AND FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME FOR WOMEN OF CHILDBEARING AGE, OR SERVICE PROVIDERS WORKING WITH THAT GROUP WORKSHOPS AND TRAININGS FOR ADDICTION PROFESSIONALS, RESEARCHERS, EDUCATORS, STUDENTS AND OTHERS TO DISSEMINATE THE LATEST INFORMATION ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE RESEARCH, TREATMENT AND RECOVERY NEVADA RADAR (REGIONAL ALCOHOL AND DRUG AWARENESS RESOURCE) CENTER, WHICH IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING CURRENT INFORMATION ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND RESEARCH AND RELATED FIELDS SUCH AS MENTAL HEALTH COMMUNITY EVENTS TO BRING AWARENESS TO THE IMPORTANCE OF RECOVERY SUCH AS THE ANNUAL SOUTHERN NEVADA RALLY FOR RECOVERY WHICH HAD OVER 400 ATTENDEES IN 2011 ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS TO UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS WHO ARE PURSUING DEGREES IN SUBSTANCE ABUSE TREATMENT AND COUNSELING LOW-COST MEETING SPACE FOR 12-STEP FELLOWSHIPS AND OTHER SUPPORT GROUPS. THE ROOMS ARE AVAILABLE 24 HOURS PER DAY, 7 DAYS PER WEEK, 365 DAYS PER YEAR TREATMENT SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THOSE UNABLE TO AFFORD THE TREATMENT THEY NEED RECOVERY COACHING ACADEMY TRAINING PEER RECOVERY COACHES TO STAFF THE FOUNDATION'S RECOVERY COMMUNITY CENTER, WHICH WILL OPEN IN 2012THE FOUNDATION FOR RECOVERY ENGAGES NUMEROUS MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY INCLUDING PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND PUBLIC LEADERS WHO PARTICIPATE IN AND SPONSOR FFR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. THE FOUNDATION HAS ESTABLISHED A TREATMENT SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE, CONSISTING OF VARIOUS STAFF AND BOARD MEMBERS, WHICH REVIEWS EACH APPLICATION BASED ON CRITERIA MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC.
