Mission

The Maine Center for Creativitys mission is to promote the growth of the arts and creative industries in Maine. This is achieved by creating projects and programs that promote the arts and stimulate the economy by contributing to the growth of Maines creative industries and professions. We do this by: 1) Creating high-visibility public art projects that capture the imagination and foster the art of the possible, 2) Creating programming and networking that support people working in the creative industries, and 3) Stimulating innovative enterprise and interaction through regional, national and international collaborations, partnerships and educational initiatives, which lead to increasing the import and export of innovation to/from Maine.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Art All Around - a collaborative community art initiative launched in 2016 that brings diverse local partners (schools, non-profits, businesses, local artists and other residents) together to create large-scale temporary art installations in outdoor public spaces in the downtown area of cities and towns across Maine. The program's pilot project took place in Westbrook, Maine in 2016, and was repeated in Westbrook in June of 2017. The program was also expanded to Biddeford in September of 2017.$7,178-
Pecha Kucha - Pecha Kucha is a quarterly gathering of some 100 to 150 community members from a wide variety of backgrounds and creative professions, intended to provide an opportunity for structured, personal presentations of creative work and personal or professional explorations. The purpose is to encourage and inspire creative expression, allow creative professionals to meet, network and potentially collaborate, and also to showcase the hidden creativity in our communities. PechaKucha is a global activity and format, with over 800 cities around the world conducting similar events and programs. Each participating community shares videos or photos and scripts from its quarterly programs via the Internet. The format is 20 slides and 20 seconds for each slide. This creates a wonderful presentation of 6 minutes and 40 seconds and provides an audience and networking opportunity to people with good ideas. It is quick and consise to keep things upbeat and interesting.$5,688-
