“USHRN held its biannual national conference in 2015. The conference brought together over 150 groups from around the United States working on various human rights concerns to raise awareness on a range of social issues and to build the human rights capacity of different community leaders.”

“Form 990, Part III, Line 4 The USHRN National Biannual Conference was held un Austin, TX in 2015. The conference brought together over 150 groups to raise awareness on a range of social issues, and to build the human capacity of different community leaders. The conference participants collaborated on how to promote immigrant rights and to combat excessive use of force by law enforcement officers. The conference also successfully introduced participants to skills building workshops, as well as raised awareness about issues related to violence against transgender persons, economic and social rights, cultural rights, and black girls living in poverty in the rural south. The Human Rights at Home (HuRAH) coordination resulted in a strengthened accountability structure for human rights compliance within the federal government. As a result of the HuRAH coordination, the participation and engagement of the U.S. Government in consulting civil society to inform human rights implementation has deepened. The U.S. Department of State established six inter-agency working groups to implement human rights recommendations made to the United States by human rights bodies with representation from a range of federal agencies as well as state representatives. Agencies represented included the Department of Justice, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Labor, the Department of the Interior, in addition to the Department of State. The Universal Periodic Review (UPR), which is a peer review of the member states of the United Nations, took place in May 2015. USHRN took a delegation of over 40 leaders to the United Nations for the UPR, and submitted a summary of 34 human rights reports to inform the process.”
