Jt's ping pong smash kids clinicin december 2014 the jason taylor foundation held the seventh-annual jt's ping pong smash kids clinic. Jason taylor teamed up with former puerto rican junior national table tennis champion, juan ly to create the program, which preceded the foundation's annual charity table-tennis fundraiser, to offer boys and girls of south florida a free opportunity to learn a range of ping pong skills and strategies from a celebrated professional. Nearly 100 deserving children from several different youth organizations throughout miami-dade and broward counties received 90 minutes of expert table-tennis instruction. No experience or ping-pong background was required. Each child received a publix backpack, a killerspin paddle and an invite to stick around and watch the main event, jt's ping-pong smash 11. During the tournament, kids watched celebrities compete against one another, obtained celebrity autographs, played video games, ate snacks and enjoyed interactive games.

The omari hardwick bluapple poetry networkthe omari hardwick bluapple poetry network, is a multi-faceted, after-school spoken word poetry program available free to students actively attending public schools throughout south florida and beyond. The program provides an environment for students to focus on literacy, prevention issues and social awareness as vehicles for self expression, both written and through performance, ultimately empowering young people, the schools they attend and the communities in which they live. In addition, by recognizing each poetry group as a member of the school district's overall network, rather than simply as an individual program, a greater sense of community is developed with ideas, creativity and understanding being shared across district boundaries. During the 2014-15 school year, nearly 50 schools actively participated in the network.

Other

All community teamduring the 2014 national football league season, the jason taylor foundation provided a unique experience for various youth groups each week the miami dolphins hosted a home game. Groups were given 20 tickets, parking passes and in-stadium beverages and snacks so that they could enjoy a professional football game in person. For a majority of the children, this was their first time attending an nfl game. The experience was also used by various programs as an incentive for participating children to exhibit good behavior, a positive attitude and strong participation in school.

Other

Louder than a bomb floridabuilding upon the impact the omari hardwick bluapple poetry network has had on area youth, the jason taylor foundation took bluapple to new heights by bringing the "super bowl of poetry" to broward county. The 2014-15 school year marked the launch of louder than a bomb florida (ltab florida), empowering and uniting south florida's youth and community through the art of the spoken word. Ltab florida featured school-based poetry teams from within the bluapple poetry network, as well as from miami-dade, palm beach and beyond, showcasing this art form through a friendly competition taking place in venues throughout broward, while providing teens from diverse backgrounds a platform to come together and find a common ground through sharing their stories. This powerful, youth initiative accomplished the following:utilized the poetry slam as a community organizing tool, unifying our wonderfully diverse, extremely spread out south florida population - ltab bridges gaps between community borders and introduces teens who would not otherwise meet. The festival will also bring students, educators, business leaders and others from the tri-county area and beyond together into a variety of unique cultural, civic and educational spaces across broward county.made the student the center of their educational experience - ltab inverts the traditional educational paradigm by asking students what they think, see and experience in their worlds, often re-engaging students at schools, while still meeting common core standards.empowered young people with tools necessary for success - ltab provides students with a platform for their voices to be heard. These students realize the strength they possess and are validated through the stories they tell and experiences they share.

Pt VIII

Jason taylor reading roomin conjunction with each of the past eight school years, the jason taylor foundation has held classes for the jason taylor reading room. Located at the miramar youth enrichment center, the jason taylor reading room is a comprehensive after-school program designed to address academic challenges among inner-city youth, particularly in the areas of literacy. Middle school and high school students participate in the program for two hours per day throughout the school year, and are navigated through a rotating academic focus calendar with assistance from a full-time educational director, certified teachers and teachers' aids. The program's curriculum addresses vocabulary development, reading comprehension, language arts, creative writing skills, oral reading fluency and novel study, as well as ninety minutes of weekly math instruction per grade level. The reading room also provides individualized computer assisted learning opportunities and homework support. 2014 also marked the fifth year of the reading room's full-time case manager, who monitors and tracks students academic performance, attendance and behavior, and serves as a liaison between the program, the students' schools and their parents. In an effort to provide a creative outlet, the reading room allows students to utilize critical literacy skills as a vehicle for self expression, both written and through performance, with the omari hardwick bluapple poetry corner, a spoken word poetry component held each friday. Through the jason taylor foundation's continuing partnerships with other community-based organizations, additional extra curricular activities are made available to reading room students including cooking and nutritional classes, mentoring programs, field days and more.

Pt VIII

The ronnie brown project "23 ways to stop youth violence"developed by the jason taylor foundation in partnership with former miami dolphins pro bowl running back, ronnie brown, the ronnie brown project is a comprehensive program consisting of specific initiatives designed to address critical issues and challenges faced by youth on a daily basis. The staple of the ronnie brown project was 23 ways to stop youth violence, an anti-violence campaign aimed at middle school and high school students designed to create heightened awareness of the epidemic of violence and bullying today's young people are experiencing, and to discuss practical solutions to managing the actions and emotions that often lead to violent acts. In 2014, the ronnie brown project aided in putting on a free summer football and cheer camp for hundreds of young people, ages 5-18. The camp teaches the fundamentals of football and cheer while stressing the importance of teamwork and perserverance.

Pt VIII

Play it forwardduring the 2014 holiday season, the jason taylor foundation continued its tradition of bringing holiday cheer to children in need through the play it forward initiative. Together, jtf and jazwares distributed 10,000 toys to children across south florida. More than 20 organizations received toys for the youth they service, including hospitals, after school programs, recreational centers, foster care facilities and more. Additionally, the initiative inspired others in the corporate community to give during the holidays, as they lent their services to the jason taylor foundation to help store, transport and distribute the toys.

Pt VIII

The ocean time projectcreated in partnership with the invicta care foundation, the ocean time project was founded with the mission of improving the lives of children facing serious illness. The project is dedicated to getting children out of hospital beds, and offering them a day out in the ocean. Children are joined by a licensed captain, jason taylor and invicta ceo, eyal lalo as they fish, cruise the waterway and often even have an opportunity to steer the boat.

Other

Cool gear for the school yearfor the tenth consecutive year, jason taylor held his cool gear for the school year back-to-school shopping program, which serves to help build a child's self-esteem and eliminate an unnecessary distraction, allowing the child to focus on their studies and not their attire while at school. In 2014, the jason taylor foundation hosted 60 underserved children at a local old navy store, providing each child with $300 to purchase school clothes. The children were each assisted by a celebrity shopper, including current and former miami dolphins players, college athletes, miami dolphins cheerleaders and other local tv, radio and sports personalities. Prior to shopping, the children enjoyed a "pre-party" in which they were treated to dinner and music from a live dj. Since establishing this program in 2005, the foundation has given out nearly $200,000 in clothes.

LOCATED AT THE MIRAMAR YOUTH ENRICHMENT CENTER, THE JASON TAYLOR READING ROOM IS A MULTI-FACETED, AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM DESIGNED TO OFFER A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM OF ILLITERACY AMONG INNER-CITY YOUTH. MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM FOUR DAYS PER WEEK FOR TWO HOURS PER DAY, ASSISTED BY CERTIFIED TEACHERS AND FOCUSING ON READING COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES, VOCABULARY BUILDING, WRITING SKILLS, PHONICS INSTRUCTION, ORAL READING, ETC. 2012 ALSO MARKED THE THIRD YEAR OF THE READING ROOM'S FULL-TIME CASE MANAGER WHO MONITORS AND TRACKS STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, ATTENDANCE AND BEHAVIOR, AS WELL AS SERVES AS A LIAISON BETWEEN THE PROGRAM, THE STUDENTS' SCHOOLS AND THEIR PARENTS.
