Any conflicts are reviewed by the board, and any resulting restriction voted on by members present at the meeting, excluding the member(s) concerned in the potential conflict.

Pt VI, Line 15A

In a previous base year, the hr committee reviewed salaries of aisd administrators and used that as a guide for setting compensation for the executive director. The committee then submitted the proposed salary to administaff (now insperity), who issued a "letter of reasonableness" supporting the amount. The board chair and the board member representing aisd then signed a letter documenting the determined salary amount. Each year since, the board interviews key personnel and compares with goals. Raises are determined based on the results of the evaluation in concert with consideration of the aisd fiscal environment and industry trends.

IRS990/Desc0SINCE 2004, AUSTIN PARTNERS IN EDUCATION (APIE) HAS PARTNERED WITH CO-FOUNDERS AUSTIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT (ISD) AND THE GREATER AUSTIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO DELIVER BEST-PRACTICE, SCALABLE, AND RESULTS-DRIVEN LEARNING MODELS FOR MATH, MENTORING, CAREER EXPLORATION, AND COLLEGE READINESS TO STUDENTS IN AUSTIN ISD'S UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES. IN LINE WITH OUR MISSION, APIE UTILIZES MEMBERS OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY TO HELP CLOSE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP CREATED BY INCOME INEQUALITY AND ADDRESS THE NEED FOR AN EDUCATED WORKFORCE. APIE PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE ACADEMIC NEEDS OF AUSTIN'S MOST AT-RISK STUDENTS AND CAN READILY ADAPT TO THE DISTRICT'S EVOLVING INSTRUCTIONAL DELIVERY MODELS. EACH YEAR, APIE RECRUITS, ORGANIZES, AND TRAINS APPROXIMATELY 1,000 VOLUNTEERS TO WORK WITH MORE THAN 2,000 AUSTIN ISD STUDENTS THROUGH THE PROGRAMS OUTLINED BELOW: -COLLEGE READINESS: PROVIDES ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO AUSTIN ISD MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO MEET TEXAS COLLEGE READINESS STANDARDS AS MEASURED BY THE TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE (TSI). COLLEGE READINESS ADVOCATES (APIE STAFF MEMBERS) PROVIDE 180 -270 MINUTES OF INSTRUCTION EACH WEEK IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS AND MATHEMATICS CONTENT AREAS AS WELL AS SUPPORT COMPLETING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS AND RELATED MATERIALS. STUDENTS WHO MEET COLLEGE READINESS STANDARDS THROUGH THE TSI TEST QUALIFY FOR ENTRANCE INTO EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS (ECHS) AND CAREER LAUNCH SCHOOLS, DUAL-CREDIT PROGRAMS ALLOWING STUDENTS TO BOTH EARN A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND RECEIVE COLLEGE CREDIT. IN SOME CASES, STUDENTS ARE ALSO ABLE TO EARN AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE IN HIGHLY-EMPLOYABLE FIELDS. -MATH CLASSROOM COACHING: PROVIDES ACADEMIC SUPPORT FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN MATH BY TRAINING AND DEPLOYING HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS - OFTEN EMPLOYED IN STEM-RELATED FIELDS - WHO CONDUCT WEEKLY, ONE-HOUR, SMALL GROUP SESSIONS WITH 2-4 STUDENTS. COACHES SUPPORT THE ACQUISITION OF MATHEMATICAL SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE, PARTICULARLY AIMED TOWARDS PREPARING STUDENTS FOR HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL MATH. COACHES ALSO PROVIDE FEEDBACK TO STUDENTS AND ENCOURAGE POSITIVE ATTITUDES TOWARDS MATHEMATICS AND STEM CAREER PATHWAYS. -MENTORING PROGRAM: MORE THAN 450 VOLUNTEERS MEET ONE-ON-ONE WITH STUDENTS ON OVER 100 DISTRICT CAMPUSES IN WEEKLY MENTORING SESSIONS. MENTORS SERVE AS POSITIVE ROLE MODELS FOR STUDENTS, HELPING THEM BUILD SELF- CONFIDENCE AND SET GOALS FOR THE FUTURE. MENTORING IS INDIVIDUALIZED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF EACH STUDENT AND CAN INCLUDE ACTIVITIES SUCH AS READING, DISCUSSING CAREERS, PREPARING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, ACADEMIC TUTORING, AND DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE STUDY HABITS. IN 2018-2019, A CAREER EXPLORATION COMPONENT WILL BE PILOTED AT SELECT HIGH SCHOOLS. AS A PARTNER IN AISD'S FEDERAL, SEVEN YEAR GEAR UP GRANT, APIE WILL PROVIDE TUTORING IN MATH AND READING TO 800 STUDENTS. SIX YEARS REMAIN IN THE GRANT. APIE ALSO CONDUCTS BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR ALL INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS VOLUNTEERING IN AUSTIN ISD SCHOOLS, SUPPORTING COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN THE AUSTIN SCHOOL SYSTEM. TOGETHER, APIE'S INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS OCCUR AT CRITICAL STEPS IN A STUDENT'S PATH TO GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL, INCREASING RATES OF COLLEGE MATRICULATION AND OPENING PATHWAYS TOWARDS REWARDING, FINANCIALLY-STABLE CAREERS.
