Activity 2

Facilitated enrollment program - mvpn and oneida, herkimer and madison counties departments of social services work together to maintain good communications and decreased processing times for application determination. In 2011-2012, this project helped families to learn about health insurance choices for children and adults, including single adults with no children. Enrollers were available at various sites throughout oneida, herkimer and madison counties to assist people in completing the application, collecting necessary documentation, and forwarding the application to the appropriate program for processing. With the assistance of mohawk valley community action agency and the traveling and in-office enrollers, mvpn submitted 761 applications during 2011-2012, which served 1426 children and adults. Applications have decreased due to changes in medicaid policy that do not require face-to-face interviews to apply. Mvpn encourages individuals to seek application assistance from staff to decrease denials. The traveling enrollers provide enrollment in 12 locations that have made it easier for the rural population to apply for health insurance options available to them. While there is no income qualification to request an initial screening, eligibility for health insurance is income-based. Consumers most often initiate contact with mvpn on their own, however, they may have heard about the agency from another service provider, a friend or family member, or a newspaper or other public notice of services.

Activity 3

Community health advocate program - mvpn helps individuals and families in madison, oneida and herkimer counties access health insurance and low cost health care and medications when they are not eligible for public health insurance programs. Mvpn staff can help get medical bills reducred, find a specialist, and ensure that health insurance companies are appropriately covering procedures. In 2011 - 2012, the cha program served 277 individuals and provided 28 presentations to 381 people regarding cha services and health reform.
