Form 990, Part III, Line 3

In march 2020, the outbreak of covid-19 (coronavirus) caused by a novel strain of the coronavirus was recognized as a pandemic by the world health organization, the outbreak was widespread in the united states during 2020. The "new york state on pause" executive order issued on march 20, 2020 prevented a physical in-person summer assembly season and opening of program facilities in 2020. With the prevention of in-person programming, chautauqua institution developed and initiated an over the top (ott) on-line platform to present our broad range of programs to curate to the appeal to an increasing diverse audience. A physical in-person season and continued development of our online ott platform is planned for 2021 and beyond.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Chautauqua foundation, inc. Was established in 1937 to raise, invest, and reinvest funds to support the mission of chautauqua institution. Chautauqua institution does not record its beneficial interest in permanently restricted endowment funds held by chautauqua foundation. It recognizes endowment revenues from the foundation in the year the foundation gives monies to the institution.
