Activity 2

In 2010, much of the partnership's focus was on landscape and viewshed matters. A landscape curator was hired. A $250,000 epf grant was awarded for landscape restoration projects. A burpee grant to restore a portion of the house environs was implemented. The fern garden was cleaned up. Work continued on the blue hill replacement tower proposal. The commitment to scenic hudson and open space institute to help purchase the easement on pleroma farm was 2/3rds complete. Regarding the main house, one court hall chair was conserved, one chair was almost complete and two stools in the lab were awaiting treatment. On the second floor, the churches' bedroom and dressing room opened to the public with replica historic wall paper and the church bedroom suite of furniture. Several paintings were restored for the "church in jamaica" exhibit that was presented in the sharp family gallery. A full-color, hard bound catalogue was created for the exhibition with funding from numerous foundations and private donors. The interior of the coachman's house was repaired and repainted, to be used for changing exhibits. Research was conducted on both the 2011 and 2012 exhibitions and fundraising begun. Educational programming was strengthened in the wagon house education center by offering new programming in the arts, nature, gardening, and landscape for all age groups. The number of constituents reached increased by over 10% from 2009, to 1851 and the number of programs increased by 13%, to 283. The curator and landscape curator spoke at the morgan library as part of a panel discussion comparing central park to olana. The curator lectured for five institutions, while other staff lectured for ten institutions up and down the hudson valley. Website offerings of educational material were expanded by offering the family guide online. The curatorial department assisted 27 researchers. The curator assisted with a book on artist's homes to be published in summer 2011. The curatorial department had one intern from rit to work on curatorial projects.

Promotion of the organization's mission through public programs including classes for all ages, workshops, lectures, special events, meetings, children's summer programs, performances, and exhibitions.
