With more than 1,100 Alliance Partners, the Organization serves as the New York-New Jersey region's preeminent advocate for coastal resilience and adaptation, equitable waterfront access, a thriving maritime economy, and climate education.”
“Form 990, Part III, Line 4a: The Organization's program activities for the year ended December 31, 2022 are as follows: WEDG (Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines): -The East Side Coastal Resiliency Project in Manhattan became the 11th WEDG Verified project. -An online self-paced version of the WEDG Professionals course was launched. -The Miami, Florida City Commission passed a resolution requiring consideration of WEDG for all storm water and flood mitigation related projects. This will drive Miami's capital projects to utilize WEDG. Waterfront Education and Access: -Estuary Explorers, our waterfront lab and classroom-based toolkit for students, reached more than 1,000 students and community members in all five boroughs and New Jersey. -We released our study "Activating New York City-Owned Waterfront Sites for Access and Recreation: Activation Plans for Four Underutilized Sites in High-Need Communities." Rise to Resilience Coalition Advocacy Results: -The Rise to Resilience Coalition was responsible for a major victory when new legislation passed by New York State in June required disclosures of all known flood risks and historic flooding of residential leases. -The Rise to Resilience Coalition successfully passed Intro 1620 (local law 122), a five-borough climate adaptation planning process for New York City, which focuses on multiple climate hazards, prioritizes environmental justice communities, and proposes short-term and long-term adaptation strategies. -The Rise to Resilience Coalition secured nature-based and community-based priorities in the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, federal legislation that directs the work of the United States Army Corps of Engineers (Army Corps). Policy and Government Affairs: -In March, the organization secured a Congressional grant from Congressmember Grace Meng to develop a climate resilience plan for Flushing Meadows Corona Park, in Queens. -In partnership with Columbia Climate School capstone project team, we developed and released the "Climate Resilience Literacy Handbook."”
“Waterfront Alliance has the form 990 prepared by an outside accounting firm and has established the following process to ensure that the information reported is complete and accurate. The President, Treasurer, and Finance Committee meet with the outside accountant and review the form 990 in detail to ensure that it correctly reflects all activities and policies at Waterfront Alliance. The final version is sent to the Board of Directors prior to submission to the Internal Revenue Service.”
