Mission
The pacific region oasis is an educational organization that promotes successfull aging for adults age 50 and older through lifelong learning, health programs and volunteer engagement. Our vision is that adults age 50 plus have opportunities to pursue vibrant, healthy, productive and meaningful lives. Pacific region oasis is a supporting organization of the oasis institute, which directs a national network of programs in 50 cities.

- Health - pacific region oasis offers a proactive health promotionstrategy to reduce health risks in older adults by helping themunderstand and address their changing health needs. The curriculumconsists of nationally developed, evidence-based programs such asactive start, chronic disease self management and free from falls,as well as locally offered exercise and fitness classes, andhealth education programs in areas of nutrition, exercise, diseasemanagement, sensory changes, mental health, memory and generalhealth promotion.

- See schedule ovolunteer service - pacific region oasis cooperates with the longbeach unified school district and the los angeles unified schooldistrict to offer the oasis intergenerational tutoring program.this research-based program matches trained volunteer tutors withprimary grade children to build reading skills, confidence andpositive attitudes toward learning. Pacific region oasis alsoprovides opportunities to work with children in an afterschool orsummer setting through catch healthy habits, an evidence-basedphysical activity and nutrition program that combats obesity byengaging teams of adults age 50 plus with children in kindergartenthrough third grade for an interactive nutrition lesson, a healthysnack and a variety of games and activities. Additionally, thereare opportunities for volunteers to teach classes, registerparticipants and assist with special events. In total, 305 volunteers contributed 20,255 volunteer hours to the long beach/lakewood and los angeles communities through pacific region oasis.
