Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Open Plans mission is to transform the streets of New York City to be truly livable for the residents of this city by supporting and advocating for sustainable, equitable and healthy forms of transportation and engaging, joyful public spaces. Open Plans uses tactical urbanism, grassroots advocacy, policy and targeted journalism to promote structural reforms within city government that support these livable streets, neighborhoods and the city-at-large. There are three main arms that operate together under the Open Plans umbrella - Streetsblog, Streetfilms, and Open Plans Advocacy. Streetsblog is a daily news source covering the movement to transform cities by reducing dependence on private automobiles and improving conditions for walkers, bike riders and transit users. Streetsblog reporters have broken important stories about transit funding, pedestrian safety and bicycle policy, making arcane topics accessible - and fun to read - to a broad audience. Streetfilms connects people to idea
