IRS990/Desc0CAMPUS FUN AND LEARN CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER (CFL) SERVES CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 6 WEEKS AND FIVE YEARS OLD.CFL IS OPEN FROM 6:30AM TO 6:00PM, OFFERING PARENTS A VARIETY OF PART TIME AND FULL TIME SCHEDULES.WE ARE OPEN 50 WEEKS PER YEAR, CLOSING ONLY FOR MAJOR HOLIDAYS (MLK JR. DAY, MEMORIAL DAY, INDEPENDENCE DAY, LABOR DAY, THANKSGIVING DAY/FOLLOWING FRIDAY, AND FROM CHRISTMAS EVE THROUGH NEW YEAR'S DAY.) PARENTS WHO ARE STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF AT RCC HAVE THE OPTION OF ENROLLING ON A SEMESTER-BASIS. COMMUNITY FAMILIES (I.E., NON RCC FAMILIES ENROLL FOR THE FULL YEAR AND ARE CHARGED WHETHER THE CHILD ATTENDS OR NOT. STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR TUITION SUBSIDIES ARE STILL GIVEN A 10% DISCOUNT ON CHILD CARE. CAMPUS FUN AND LEARN WORKS WITH 4 SCHOOL DISTRICTS (EAST RAMAPO, RAMAPO, NORTH ROCKLAND, AND CLARKSTOWN) PROVIDING UNIVERSAL PREKINDERGARTEN FOR STUDENTS FROM THOSE DISTRICTS. EACH DISTRICT PROVIDES FUNDING FOR THOSE CHILDREN TO ATTEND FOR TWO AND A HALF HOURS FOR 180 DAYS EACH ACADEMIC YEAR. CFL OFFERS 16 UPK SLOTS PER YEAR. THE PROGRAM IS A HANDS-ON DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PROGRAM IN WHICH CHILDREN ARE ENGAGED IN ACTIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES BASED ON CONSTRUCTIVIST THEORY. WE INFUSE REGGIO EMELIA ELEMENTS, SUCH AS THE PROJECT APPROACH INTO OUR PROGRAM WHICH ALLOWS CHILDREN THE ABILITY TO GUIDE THE CURRICULUM BASED ON THEIR INTERESTS. WE PLACE A STRONG EMPHASIS ON THE EXPLORATION OF OUR NATURAL SURROUNDING/ENVIRONMENT. CFL ALSO SERVES AS AN OBSERVATION SITE FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED AT RCC AND IN THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT AT DOMINICAN COLLEGE. APPROXIMATELY 30 STUDENTS FROM RCC'S TEACHER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT EACH SEMESTER CONDUCT FIELDWORK AT THE CENTER FOR BETWEEN 2-9 HOURS EACH WEEK, DEPENDING ON THE COURSE IN WHICH THEY ARE ENROLLED. STUDENTS ENROLLED IN RCC'S PEDIATRICS NURSING COURSES ALSO CONDUCT 8 HOURS OF FIELDWORK EACH SEMESTER AT CFL. STUDENTS FROM DOMINICAN COLLEGE CONDUCT APPROXIMATELY 20 HOURS OF FIELDWORK PER SEMESTER. OBSERVATION TIMES AND FIELD EXPERIENCE ARE ALSO CONDUCTED BY STUDENTS IN RCC'S OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, PHYSICAL THERAPY AND SPEECH AND COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAMS. FURTHERMORE, STUDENTS AWARDED FEDERAL WORK STUDY MAY BE EMPLOYED HERE AS TEACHER ASSISTANTS, ADDING TO THEIR RESUMES. STUDENTS MAY ALSO VOLUNTEER HERE AND RECEIVE COURSE CREDIT THROUGH THE OFFICE OF STUDENT INVOLVEMENT. IN FISCAL YEAR 2013/2014 RCC AND CFL WERE AWARDED THE CHILD CARE ACCESS MEANS PARENTS IN SCHOOL (CCAMPIS) GRANT IN OCTOBER 2013. THIS LED TO INCREASED ENROLLMENT IN ALL CFL CLASSROOMS (INFANT THROUGH UPK) BECAUSE IT GREATLY SUBSIDIZED THE COST OF CHILD CARE FOR RCC STUDENT PARENTS.CFL IS WORKING WITH COMMUNITY PARTNER NEIMAN MARKETING ON CONSTRUCTING AN ENTIRELY NEW WEBSITE. THIS WEBSITE WILL BE MORE "USER FRIENDLY" NOT ONLY FOR FAMILIES SEEKING CHILD CARE, BUT ALSO FOR FAMILIES CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM. THIS WILL HELP MARKET THE CENTER IN A MORE SUCCESSFUL MANNER. TODDLER TEACHER JUSTYNA ZAKRZEWSKA WAS SELECTED TO RECEIVE A $1,000 NATIONAL CHILD CARE TEACHER AWARD (TERRI LYNNE LOKOFF CHILD CARE FOUNDATION) IN RECOGNITION OF HER INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION THROUGH THE INTEGRATED USE OF MUSIC IN THE TODDLER CLASSROOM. THIS AWARD MONEY WAS USED TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS FOR THE CLASS, A MUSICAL CD COLLECTION, MICROPHONES AND SPEAKERS TO CONTINUE THE MUSICAL PROJECT APPROACH THROUGHOUT THE CENTER. THIS IS A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD AND IS ONLY GIVEN TO ONE TEACHER IN EACH STATE.
