Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The robert toigo foundation fosters the career advancement and increased financial leadership presence of underrepresented talent in business by creating mechanisms for accessing high potential mbas with skill and ambition to become next generation financial leaders in business.the gateway to this experience is the foundation's mba fellowship which is a highly selective process of identifying individuals at the start of their mba studies who possess a passion for making an impact in their careers and in their communities and who demonstrate the highest standards of ethical leadership and leadership potential. The foundation's programming is aligned through the course of fellow's academic and post-graduate career. Further, our work promotes the merits of diversity and inclusion to one of the nation's most vital industries the field of finance and to allied industries where the skills of finance can be leveraged and where the vision of creating a more inclusive workplace remains.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Education:the foundation's 2011 investment of more than $1 million in service to the education pursuits of the 164 students awarded the toigo fellowship reflects three important direct program areas: pre-mba outreach and recruitment, student programming, and leadership development offerings. Aggressive promotion and recruitment efforts aimed at demystifying a career in finance, against a changing financial landscape continues to direct the foundation's strategies for increasing its marketing and high touch educational programming to prospective mbas. This approach draws the greatest number of applicants each year for the program and the expected outcome of selecting 55-65 students its 1st year mba class. In 2011, toigo's efforts resulted in introducing to the industry the largest class in history of 65 outstanding students representing 17 business schools nationwide who entered business school in fall 2011. Achieving this goal involved visibility at key events and conferences where the foundation can impart the mission of the organization. These efforts were complemented by social media communication strategies, on-campus presentations, webinars and collaborative marketing with similar mission-driven organizations to reach the desired target population of high caliber gmat test takers with pursuit of careers in finance. For the second year, the foundation hosted its own successful recruitment event drawing more than 100 prospective mbas and top finance firms for industry education and networking opportunity. The foundation awarded merit based fellowships and internship stipends as well as professional development scholarships for students pursuing professional certifications/designations important for their career profile. The foundation provides leadership development curricula and coaching, a robust mentoring program, industry workshops and career treks building upon its long-standing and vibrant industry network and understanding of the leadership skills required for success in the finance industry. Of critical importance to the foundation's programming is the assurance that participants are, through their interactions, strengthening bonds among this vibrant multicultural network and promoting the brand of the toigo organization across an academic platform nationwide.
Activity 3
Career & talent management services:in keeping with the foundation's mission to make long-lasting impact on its participants throughout their career, the foundation has invested in resources that begin relationships with students at the mba level and continue through their post-graduate career to provide dynamic, proprietary career management support, important given the financial landscape and changing requirements for talent and skill. Critical career strategy assessment, resume review and presentation of talent continue to be an invaluable offering to this leadership population within the industry and in keeping with the foundation's objective of promoting retention with the field. The foundation has supported the job transition of its talent by underwriting conference attendance wherein timely continuing education can accelerate the professional networking and job strategy necessary. Additionally, the foundation sponsored the attendance of its mba students to several events hosted by supporters enhancing their knowledge and access to top financial institutions and leaders. In 2011, the foundation formalized its outreach to the employer community through its job placement service - toigopro and the addition of staff resources to carry out the coaching and talent promotion function invaluable to this population.

IRS990/Description0TOIGO INSTITUTE AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES:THE FOUNDATION CONTINUED THE PROGRAM ROLLOUT INTRODUCED IN 2010 OF THE TOIGO INSTITUTE FOR LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE, ADVANCEMENT AND DIVERSITY (I-LEAD) TO FORMALIZE THE BROADER SERVICE PLATFORM TARGETING THE POST-GRADUATE POPULATION AND INDUSTRY OVERALL. THIS STRATEGIC EXPANSION ALLOWED FOR THE ENHANCED DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE FOUNDATION AND ORGANIZATIONS IN KEEPING WITH THE TOIGO MISSION, AND OFFERED NEW STREAMS OF SUPPORT AND ENGAGEMENT. THE EXPANSION STRATEGY AND THE THOUGHTFULNESS OF THE PROGRAMS INTRODUCED TO DATE HAVE BEEN WELL RECEIVED AND, IN 2011, COVERED THREE AREAS OF KEY RELEVANCE TO THE MISSION OF THE FOUNDATION AND ITS KEEN FOCUS ON LEADERSHIP - ENTREPRENEURSHIP, BOARD DIVERSITY, INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP EDUCATION AND WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP. IN ADDITION TO THE PROGRAM PRESENTED IN 2010, THESE FOUR NEW INITIATIVES CREATE THE ANCHOR FOR THE TOIGO INSTITUTE FOR THE FUTURE. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED THE FRAMEWORK TO ASSIST ITS ALUMNI IN THE CREATION OF THEIR OWN ALUMNI INVESTMENT CONFERENCE BRINGING KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE TO A PEER EXCHANGE OF MORE THAN 100 ALUMNI AND IS ANTICIPATED TO GROW. THE COMPLEMENT OF THE INSTITUTE TO THE MBA EDUCATION TRACK SETS THE FOUNDATION APART FROM OTHER ORGANIZATIONS BY WAY OF ITS DEMONSTRATED COMMITMENT TO CAREER SUCCESS AND ADVANCEMENT AND ITS PROMOTION OF LEADERSHIP THROUGH THE MANY INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS INTRODUCED IN 2010 AND PLANNED FOR THE FUTURE.TOIGO CARRIED FORWARD ITS OBJECTIVE TO PROVIDE THOUGHT LEADERSHIP TO THE INDUSTRY IN 2011 THROUGH SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AND PARTICIPATION IN ROUNDTABLES ON A NATIONAL LEVEL BRINGING FORWARD THE NON-PROFIT'S LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVE ON DIVERSITY, INCLUSION, EDUCATION AND ACCESS TO CAPITAL.
