“Board of trustees' review of form 990 the form 990 is drafted by the finance department of st. John's riverside hospital and reviewed by the director of finance and chief financial officer of the hospital. The draft form 990, and workpaper support, is provided to the hospital's tax preparer to prepare a final version of the form 990. The final version of the form 990 is then reviewed by the hospital's finance committee members of the governing board of trustees and then a copy is provided to the entire board of trustees prior to submission to the irs.”
“All members of the board of trustees and all personnel of the organization who are in a position to influence any purchasing decision or business transaction must complete a conflict of interest statement. This includes administrative staff, department heads and members of the medical board. The statements are distributed by the compliance officer annually in november with the expectation that they be returned to the compliance officer in january of the following year. When returned, these statements are reviewed by the compliance officer. All information is kept confidential and statements are maintained in the compliance office. The compliance officer will consult with outside counsel as necessary concerning any potential problems or possible conflicts of interest. A request for proposal for an executive compensation survey is initiated by human resources to either utilize the validated survey of the greater ny hospital association as well as sullivan cotter (a national firm specializing in healthcare compensation and benefits) or find a vendor who could provide a comprehensive review and comparison of the salary and benefits riverside health care systems inc should be providing its executives while meeting all legal and anti-trust requirements. This survey is to identify the base compensation, incentive compensation and non-cash compensation for like positions in the competing westchester county, new york area. The areas that would be evaluated include: president and chief executive officer, vice president of finance and chief financial officer, vice president nursing and chief nursing officer, associate vice president behavioral health, and vice president of medical operations. The request for proposal gets sent to three companies with a known track record in healthcare compensation consulting. Each of the vendors responds with the detailed analysis that they will provide and the cost associated with the process. Based on the timeframe and the cost. Either a vendor is chosen to perform the executive compensation survey or the organization utilizes the purchased healthcare executive and management compensation surveys to conduct the analysis. Finally, a compensation and benefits proposal is presented to independent members of the board of trustees personnel and compensation committee for approval. The personnel and compensation committee contemporaneously documents its findings in its minutes, independent members of the board of trustees make the decision on approving the salary changes. An executive compensation review took place in 2018 and an employee compensation review was completed in 2019, there were no meetings scheduled in 2021, 2022 or 2023. In 2024, the organization reviewed the compensation surveys of the greater ny hospital association as well as sullivan cotter to evaluate compensation.”

“The volunteer program at st. John's riverside hospital is currently comprised of 132 active volunteers, interns and students. The program was canceled in 2021 due to covid, and reopened in 2022. Volunteer records and hours are tracked through a computer program located in the volunteer office at st. John's andrus pavilion. Offsite volunteers complete time sheets at their respective facility/department and submit those reports to this office on a monthly basis for inclusion in the volunteer works computer program. Additionally, 17 independent board members served on the board during 2023.”

“The day program includes intensive, medically supervised services for up to five days per week, four hours per day with individual and group therapy psychiatric assessment, 12 step programming, vocational and educational services, and recreation therapy. The clinic program has services available for up to four times per week, offering flexible day and evening hours for those who work, go to school or need a step-down level of care. Targeted services for adolescents and for family members impacted by alcoholism and drug dependence are also available. Form 990, part iii, line 4c: to date, there are over 158 students enrolled in the professional nursing program. In 1999 there were no more than 50 students enrolled and now the school proudly counts more than 2,500 graduates who have served patients and health care throughout the united states and around the world. Due to our growth, the school has grown its website which enables applicants to quickly complete online forms, online applications, and surveys. The cochran school of nursing is accredited by the national league for nursing. The st. John's riverside hospital emergency medicine residency is a 3 year acgme accredited program located in yonkers, ny. The inaugural class of residents started on july 1, 2017 and graduated on june 30, 2020. The emergency medicine program supports a total of 30 residents, typically 10 in each postgraduate training year. In 2024 the program had 30 residents (10 pgy-1, 10 pgy-2 and 10 pgy-3 residents). On june 30, 2024 the program graduated it's fifth class of residents (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024). The st. John's riverside hospital internal medicine residency program has two acgme accredited tracks. There is a preliminary (one year) and a categorical (3 year) track. The program supports a total of 30 residents. The inaugural class of residents started on july 1, 2016 consisting of 6 residents in the preliminary track and 8 residents in the categorical track. On june 30, 2024 the program graduated it's sixth class of categorical residents (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024). In 2024 there were 3 residents in the preliminary track and 27 residents in the categorical track accounting for a total of 30 residents in the internal medicine program. Form 990, part iii, line 4d: st. John's riverside hospital operates a methadone maintenance program seven days a week, 365 days a year to enable clients suffering narcotic addiction to continue productive lives. In 2024, the clinic had 85,178 visits.”

“Accounting for uncertainty in income taxes the hospital is a not-for-profit corporation, exempt from federal income taxes under sections 501(a) and 501(c)(3) of the code. It is also generally exempt from state and local income taxes. There are certain transactions that could be deemed "unrelated business income and would result in a tax liability. Management reviews transactions to estimate potential tax liabilities using a threshold of more likely than not of being sustained.
