Mission

To reduce and prevent alcohol and other substance abuse within the riverhead schools and community.

See schedule o riverhead community awareness program, inc.'s (cap) mission is to reduce and prevent alcohol and other substance abuse within the riverhead schools and community. The three specific goals of cap are: (1) to prevent or delay experimentation with alcohol or any drug by school-age population; (2) to prevent experimentation from leading to abuse; (3) to prevent the abuse of alcohol and drugs from leading to serious harm to the individual, the individual's family, peers and community, namely to prevent accidents, automobile crashes, health problems and addiction.

After the form 990 is received, it is reviewed by the board of directors, and then recommended for approval by the board. If there is an issue, riverhead community awareness program will discuss with the audit team. Riverhead community awareness program has not encountered this to date.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The conflict of interest policy is required to be reviewed by the board of directors and employees annually. If, after hearing the response of the covered person and making such further investigation as may be warranted in the circumstances, the board or committee determines that the covered person has in fact failed to disclose an actual or possible conflict of interest, it shall take appropriate disciplinary and corrective action. Any conflicted person is required not to be present during the decision making process.

The board of directors regularly reviews all compensation matters. They review comparable salary data of similar sized agencies before final approval of salary changes for the executive director. The 2017 salaries was based on a review done in 2016 and subsequently another review was done in november 2017.

THE PROGRAM CONCLUDED WITH THE 32ND ANNUAL SAY NO TO DRUGS MARCH IN WHICH OVER 1,000 STUDENTS, TEACHER, DIGNITARIES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS WERE IN ATTENDANCE. IN ADDITION, CAP SOCIAL WORKERS PROVIDED WEEKLY PEER LEADERSHIP TRAINING TO OVER 80 HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO TEACH THE MONTHLY PULASKI STREET PREVENTION/EDUCATION PROGRAM. CAP ALSO PROVIDED MONTHLY TRAINING TO 25 COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS TO TEACH THE PROGRAM. PEER LEADERS EITHER ASSISTED THE VOLUNTEERS OR THE MORE EXPERIENCED PEER LEADERS EACH MONTH. IN ADDITION, 123 STUDENTS WERE SEEN IN 16 SOCIAL SKILLS GROUPS (TYPICALLY USING EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAMS) IN THE TWO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. AT LEAST 80% OF THE STUDENTS WHO CONTINUED WITH INDIVIDUAL, GROUP OR FAMILY COUNSELING, OR WHO WERE SEEN FOR CRISIS INTERVENTION, SHOWED IMPROVEMENT IN ONE OR MORE MEASURABLE AREAS. THE ROLE OF SCHOOL BASED PREVENTION COUNSELING IS TO ADDRESS RISK FACTORS FOR FUTURE SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND TO TEACH STUDENTS TO UTILIZE APPROPRIATE COPING STRATEGIES.
