Mission

Catholic migration services (cms) is a non profit organization providing quality legal services to immigrants primarily in brooklyn and queens, regardless of race, ethnicity, and religion. Catholic migration services is focused on "welcoming the stranger in our midst," by being committed to empowering underserved immigrant communities regardless of religion or ethnicity. We provide high quality legal services, education, and advocacy to immigrants to advance equality and social justice in a changing and diverse population.

A not-for-profit legal services provider affiliated with catholic charities of brooklyn and queens and the roman catholic diocese of brooklyn, provides free legal services and know your rights education to low-income individuals regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status.we assist immigrants with immigration legal services, housing legal services, and immigrant workers' rights legal services.in addition, we are committed to collaborating with and serving the diverse ethnic ministries of our community through pastoral services for immigrants. This preserves the cultural traditions and heritage of our people by ensuring ongoing fellowship and spiritual growth in the life of the church.

At each annual meeting of the membership, a number of directors equal to the number of directors whose terms have expired will be elected by a plurality vote of the membership for the term of three years and until the earliest of their successors being duly elected and qualified or their death, resignation or removal.

Catholic migration services, inc. Has its form 990 prepared by an outside accounting firm and has established the following review process to ensure that the information reported is complete and accurate. Once it's reviewed by management and ready to be filed with irs, it will be sent to the board of directors for review. Any members that have any comments or concerns will be addressed and documented by outside accountants. Then the form 990 will be finalized and approved for filing.

A conflict of interest disclosure statement is furnished annually to the board of directors by each director and officer. The disclosure statements are reviewed annually by the board of directors or by a committee thereof. In addition, each director and officer reports promptly to the corporation any potential conflict of interest as and when it arises. The conflict of interest policy applies to other employees and agents of the corporation, as determined by resolution of the board of directors. In connection with all actions taken by the board of directors or a committee thereof with respect to any contract or transaction between the corporation and one or more of its directors or officers, or between the corporation and any other corporation, firm, association, or other entity in which one or more of the directors or officers of the corporation are directors or officers or have a substantial financial interest, each such interested director or officer of the corporation will: (a) disclose to the board of directors or committee thereof the material facts as to such director's or officer's interest in such contract or transaction or as to any such common directorships, offices, or significant financial interest, and (b) may participate in the information-gathering stage of the board of directors or committee's discussion but must retire from the room in which the board of directors or committee is meeting and does not participate in the final deliberation or vote on such contract or transaction. All questions as to whether a conflict of interest exists is resolved by a vote of the board of directors in which the interested director may not vote.

The ceo does not receive compensation from catholic migration services. The ceo determines the compensation of the director of legal services and sr. Vice president (this is one position). Approximately once per year, the ceo will review the sr. Vp's compensation, consider compensation from comparable positions at other organizations, and revise the sr. Vp's compensation, if appropriate. This process was last undertaken in 2020.

AMONG OUR CLOSED CASES, CMS HELPED MORE THAN 216 LAWFUL PERMANENT RESIDENTS APPLY TO BECOME U.S. CITIZENS, 62 CHILDHOOD ARRIVALS OBTAIN OR RENEW DACA STATUS, 35 U.S. CITIZENS AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS OBTAIN IMMIGRATION STATUS FOR THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AND REUNITE IN THE UNITED STATES, 16 MINOR-AGED IMMIGRANTS ADJUST THEIR STATUS BASED ON SPECIAL IMMIGRANT JUVENILE STATUS, AND 11 IMMIGRANTS OBTAIN ASYLUM OR ADJUST THEIR STATUS BASED ON ASYLEE OR REFUGEE STATUS. WE OBTAINED OVER $150,000 IN FEE WAIVERS FOR VARIOUS IMMIGRATION SERVICES. OUR LAWYERS GAVE COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS THAT REACHED MORE THAN 9800 NEW YORK RESIDENTS AND INFORMED THEM ABOUT CHANGES IN FEDERAL IMMIGRATION POLICY AND WAYS TO AVOID FRAUDS AND SCAMS THAT TARGET VULNERABLE IMMIGRANTS.
