Below are three major grant projects that savi exchanged in for the fiscal year: tcs k-12: pratt's spatial analysis and visualization initiative (savi) has received a pratt center k-12 research fellowship to partner with tata consulting services (tcs) and design and pilot a 13-week curriculum for grades 7-8 that focuses on data, gis, and storytelling through maps. This project will build on tcs's existing technology awareness program, goit, which targets 6th-8th grade classrooms in urban areas that are underserved in the technology field. Goit is implemented internationally in 27 u.s. States and 3 canadian provinces and plans to offer this gis mapping curriculum next year to all participating schools. Usfs: savi was awarded approximately $99,000 from the usda forest service to partner with the usda forest service's new york city urban field station (nyc usfs) to present the exhibit "who takes care of new york city?" in the queens museum this september. The exhibition will feature artists whose work aligns with the themes of community-based stewardship, civic engagement, and social infrastructure, including works by two nyc usfs artists-in-residence, matthew jensen and julia oldham. The nyc urban field station, a partnership between the usda forest service, the nyc department of parks & recreation, and the natural areas conservancy, has a mission to improve quality of life in urban areas by conducting and supporting research about social-ecological systems and natural resource management. Nag: expanding on past works with an additional funding award of approximately $27,000 from the new york state department of environmental conservation, savi has once again partnered with the north brooklyn neighbors (nbn) to update and build upon the existing online map-based community organizing tool, the nag toxicity map.
