The yes real food active living (rfal) initiative is a youth-led advocacy program that works to address childhood obesity by partnering with youth and adults to create policies and transform systems so that youth have increased access to fresh, healthy foods and safe places to play and be active. The rfal team consists of 1 team lead, 2 program coordinators and 8 youth staff. From 7/1/13 to 6/30/14, the yes real food active living team provided in- depth youth and adult leader training events, workshops and conference presentations to 183 adults and 117 youth. The yes real food active living team created a new resource: - yes healthy concessions toolkit the yes real food active living team participated in national events: - led the youth track at the southern obesity summit in nashville tn in november, 2013 -invited to attend the voices for healthy kids regional advocacy training in baltimore, md in january 2014. The yes real food active living team accomplished these changes: -nc state alliance of ymcas issued a mini-grant program to fund 10-12 youth advocacy teams across the state of nc through ymca youth groups to conduct local advocacy focusing on rfal. -the asheville city council prioritized funding requests by the community for the transit system. -the asheville city council voted to adopt their proposed budget allotting funds for sunday public transportation service. -1 non elective bus rider was appointed to the transit committee to make the representation more equitable. -the nc youth network launched in march 2014 with a focus on food access and bike/pedestrian funding. The yes tobacco use prevention initiative provides training and technical assistance nation-wide to advocate for policies that address prevention of teen tobacco use and create tobacco-free environments. The team consists of 1 team lead, with support from current and graduated youth staff. From 7/1/13 to 6/30/l4, the yes tobacco use prevention team provided in- depth adult and youth leader trainings presented to 25 adults and 61 youth. The yes tobacco use prevention team developed a new resource: -bele chere change chronicle, which shares how youth leaders worked to remove big tobacco sponsorship from the southeast's largest free outdoor music and arts festival. The yes tobacco use prevention team lead attended a national event: -national coalition meeting of the national african-american tobacco prevention network (naatpn) in atlanta, ga in april 2014. Yes manages a national network to impact tobacco-related and cancer health disparities, educate and communicate support for evidence-based commercial tobacco use prevention and cancer prevention environmental approaches, and provide training and technical assistance to network participants. 33 groups are a part of this network. The yes tobacco use prevention team accomplished these changes: -beaufort county passed a policy prohibiting smoking and all tobacco products in county buildings, vehicles, and within 50 feet of all buildings. Yes provided advocacy activities including presenting to the local parks and recreation board, organizing cigarette butt pick-ups, and surveying residents; provided sample policy language; trained local youth advocates; and held conversations with the health director. -oxford housing authority in granville county adopted a smoke-free policy. -oxford city parks adopted a tobacco-free policy. -forsyth county schools included use of e-cigarettes as a level ii offense in their possession/use of tobacco policy. -the tyrell county parks and recreation commission voted unanimously to sign a resolution to support smoke-free government buildings and grounds. The commission sent the resolution to the county commissioners, who voted to sign the resolution into policy. -after several adults attended the yes healthy schools leadership summit in perry, ga in 2011, both pierce county and peach county school districts adopted a 100% tobacco-free schools policy during 2013. -6,200 people in nc enjoy smoke-free multi-unit housing thanks to a policy change by westminster properties, based in greensboro, nc. The youth, having attended a yes training, were quoted in the media after speaking on a panel at a lunch & learn with property managers and owners. This policy would not have been possible without the diligent support and resources provided by the nc tobacco prevention and control branch and the community transformation grant. The yes tobacco use prevention initiative received earned media stories highlighting the work of local youth across the country being equipped and mobilized by yes training events: -pierce county (ga) students - 7/1/13 -local-youth-attend-healthy-schools-leadership-summit in swainsboro, ga - 11/19/13 -partner spotlight on yes on naatpn website - 12/2/13 -partner spotlight on naatpn sent to nc tobacco prevention and control branch listserv - 2/5/14 activate allen county (oh) summit - 5/22/14

The yes substance abuse prevention initiative cultivates successful youth-adult partnerships that effectively advocate for community change to prevent underage drinking. The team consists of 1 team lead and 3 youth staff. From 7/1/13 to 6/30/14, the yes substance abuse prevention team conducted youth and adult leader training events for 416 adults and 38 youth. Yes substance abuse prevention team provides training and resources for the state-wide, youth-led movement: north carolina preventing underage drinking initiative. The team trains youth who are involved with local groups, sharing strategies to change environments in ways that eliminate youth access to alcohol. The team also trains adults on engaging youth and on topics that assist in meeting their goals to prevent underage drinking, such as awareness of alcopops (products that look like soda, juice or energy drinks but actually contain alcohol) and advocacy against sale of alcopops in grocery stores. In fy'14, yes also provided grants management and technical assistance to nc pudi. The yes substance abuse prevention team created new resources: -alcopop free stores (afs) resource kit, including an afs strategy guide, critic counters, script, letter to the editor, sample letter of support, and resolution -youth orientation guide -youth empowerment report as part of the nc talk it up. Lock it up campaign, the yes substance abuse prevention team conducted 4 pledge drives to collect signatures on a commitment card from adults who pledge to secure alcohol in their home and reduce access to alcohol for underage individuals. The yes substance abuse prevention youth team presented a "youth empowerment 101" workshop at the midwest alcohol policy summit in ohio in april 2014. The yes substance abuse prevention team accomplished these changes: -language supportive of youth empowerment, youth pay, and youth engagement was incorporated into the requirements for receiving grants in nc preventing underage drinking initiative efforts. -since 2009, yes has been funded to provide training and technical assistance to the nc preventing underage drinking initiative. The center for disease control (cdc) youth risk behavior surveillance system (yrbss) reported in 2009 that 35% of high school students in north carolina reported having had at least 1 drink of alcohol on 1 or more occasions in the past 30 days. In 2013, this was reduced to 32%. This 3% drop equates to 19,788 fewer nc students drinking alcohol (based on 2010 us census bureau statistics. The yes substance abuse prevention initiative received earned media hits including: -yes on website of substance abuse and mental health services administration (samhsa) - july 2013 -yes in resource alert from office of juvenile justice and delinquency prevention (ojjdp) - august 2013 -yes event in carolina parent - 5/19/14

Fourth accomplishment: the yes access to health care initiative works to ensure that youth can access the care they need through school-based health centers (sbhcs) and opportunities to have a more active role in their own health care. The team consists of 1 team lead and 4 youth staff. From 7/1/13 to 6/30/14, the yes access to health care team provided youth training, as well as national conference workshop sessions, for a total of 69 adults and 23 youth. Access team member jhana parikh, during her third year on the youth staff at yes, served on the national youth advisory council for the school-based health alliance (sbha) where she met with arne duncan, u.s. Secretary of education, to build support for funding school-based health centers. The yes access to health care team led awareness and education events including: -communicated with the wake county (nc) school board and other stakeholders about the importance of school-based health centers. -educated national health care partners on ways to integrate a youth empowerment framework into their health care delivery system -co-led a statewide reproductive justice youth summit and led a small workshop. The yes access to health care team accomplished these changes: -establishment of the montefiore (ny) youth council working group -embedding a youth voice onto the nc institute of medicine (nciom) task force on patient and family engagement. Two youth attended the second task force meeting and designated one youth to be the lead on the task force through the end of december. The organization adopted the provisions of fasb asc 740-10-25 accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. Under this provision, an organization must recognize the tax benefit associated with tax taken for the tax return purposes when it is more likely than not the position will be sustained. The implementaion had no impact on the organizations financial statements. The organization does not believe there are any material uncertain tax positions and, accordingly, it will not recognize any liability for unreconized tax benefits. The organization is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however there are currently no audits for any tax years in progress. The organization believes it is no longer subject to income tax examination for the years prior to 2011. At june 30, 2014 the organization had no uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statemnents.

FOCUS ISSUES ARE: PREVENTION OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY, TEEN TOBACCO USE, AND UNDERAGE DRINKING; AND INCREASING ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE. THE YOUTH, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH YES ADULT STAFF, WORK ON LOCAL POLICY, SYSTEM, AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES, AND THEN TRAIN OTHER TEAMS OF YOUTH AND ADULTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO REPLICATE THE WORK IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES. AT YES WE MEASURE OUTCOMES OF OUR WORK, BASED ON RESULTS THAT OUR PARTNERS ACHIEVE FROM EXPOSURE TO THE YES YOUTH EMPOWERMENT MODEL. WE COLLECT DATA PRE-TRAINING, AFTER 30-60 DAYS, AND AFTER 1 YEAR. THE YES REAL FOOD ACTIVE LIVING (RFAL) INITIATIVE IS A YOUTH-LED ADVOCACY PROGRAM THAT WORKS TO ADDRESS CHILDHOOD OBESITY BY PARTNERING WITH YOUTH AND ADULTS TO CREATE POLICIES AND TRANSFORM SYSTEMS SO THAT YOUTH HAVE INCREASED ACCESS TO FRESH, HEALTHY FOODS AND SAFE PLACES TO PLAY AND BE ACTIVE. THE RFAL TEAM CONSISTS OF 1 TEAM LEAD, 2 PROGRAM COORDINATORS AND 8 YOUTH STAFF. FROM 7/1/13 TO 6/30/14, THE YES REAL FOOD ACTIVE LIVING TEAM PROVIDED IN- DEPTH YOUTH AND ADULT LEADER TRAINING EVENTS, WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS TO 183 ADULTS AND 117 YOUTH. THE YES REAL FOOD ACTIVE LIVING TEAM CREATED A NEW RESOURCE: - YES HEALTHY CONCESSIONS TOOLKIT THE YES REAL FOOD ACTIVE LIVING TEAM PARTICIPATED IN NATIONAL EVENTS: - LED THE YOUTH TRACK AT THE SOUTHERN OBESITY SUMMIT IN NASHVILLE TN IN NOVEMBER, 2013 -INVITED TO ATTEND THE VOICES FOR HEALTHY KIDS REGIONAL ADVOCACY TRAINING IN BALTIMORE, MD IN JANUARY 2014. THE YES REAL FOOD ACTIVE LIVING TEAM ACCOMPLISHED THESE CHANGES: -NC STATE ALLIANCE OF YMCAS ISSUED A MINI-GRANT PROGRAM TO FUND 10-12 YOUTH ADVOCACY TEAMS ACROSS THE STATE OF NC THROUGH YMCA YOUTH GROUPS TO CONDUCT LOCAL ADVOCACY FOCUSING ON RFAL. -THE ASHEVILLE CITY COUNCIL PRIORITIZED FUNDING REQUESTS BY THE COMMUNITY FOR THE TRANSIT SYSTEM. -THE ASHEVILLE CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO ADOPT THEIR PROPOSED BUDGET ALLOTTING FUNDS FOR SUNDAY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICE. -1 NON ELECTIVE BUS RIDER WAS APPOINTED TO THE TRANSIT COMMITTEE TO MAKE THE REPRESENTATION MORE EQUITABLE. -THE NC YOUTH NETWORK LAUNCHED IN MARCH 2014 WITH A FOCUS ON FOOD ACCESS AND BIKE/PEDESTRIAN FUNDING.
