FORM 990, PART III, LINE 1, ORGANIZATION'S MISSION (CONTINUED)

Developing radio partners brings the most important development information to those hardest to reach in africa using the most widely used medium--radio--by enriching the programming of community based radio stations. We train journalists about climate-smart agriculture, health for women and youth through workshops, weekly bulletins on timely issues with a problem statement and solutions and production tips. We provide funds for community activities and on-site mentoring. As a result, farmers have improved their livelihoods, trees have been planted, cholera reduced and health services made more accessible. Drp has worked in zambia, rwanda, cameroon, malawi and cape verde in recent years. By providing much-needed training, drp helps radio stations live up to their potential of being powerful agents for positive change.

IRS990ScheduleA/Form990ScheduleAPartVIGrp/ExplanationTxt0DEVELOPING RADIO PARTNERS IS A NONPROFIT AND MEDIA DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION WHICH WORKS WITH TEAMS OPERATING LOCAL RADIO STATIONS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. THEY PROVIDE THEM WITH THE SKILLS. CONTENT AND METHODOLOGIES THEY NEED TO BRING RELIABLE INFORMATION SERVICES ON DEVELOPMENT TOPICS TO THEIR LISTENERS. DRP WAS ACTIVE IN MALAWI MALAWI: DRP WAS AWARDED A SUBGRANT FROM POPULATION REFERENCE BUREAU IN THE AMOUNT OF $93,212.78 USD IN FEBRUARY 2020 TO IMPLEMENT THE HEALTH POLICY PLUS PROJECT IN MALAWI. THE PROJECT IS TO CONCLUDE IN SEPTEMBER 2020. DRP IS NOW WORKING WITH SEVEN RADIO STATIONS AS PART OF THE PRB PROJECT. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT ARE TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY RADIO STATIONS AND MORE THAN 100 YOUTH JOURNALISTS TO HELP IMPROVE THE ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR PLANNING, PROGRAMMING AND DELIVERING YOUTH FRIENDLY HEALTH SERVICESAND INFORMATION TO YOUNG PEOPLE IN MALAWI AS DESCRIBED IN THE NATIONAL YOUTH FRIENDLY HEALTH SERVICES STRATEGY 2015-2020. ACTIVITIES: DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, DRP HAS ADDED VIRUS MITIGATION ACTIVITIES TO ITS EXISTING YOUTH HEALTH PROJECT IN MALAWI. THE FOCUS HAS BEEN ON MAKING LISTENERS TO THE SEVEN PARTNER RADIO STATIONS AWARE OF THE DANGERS OF THE VIRUS AND TO EFFECT BEHAVIOR CHANGE. DRP HAS CONTINUED TO IMPLEMENT IT YOUTH HEALTH PROJECT -- INCORPORATING COVID-19 AWARENESS INTO THOSE ACTIVITIES. ALL TRAINING, AS PART OF THIS PROJECT, IS BEING DONE REMOTELY. MALAWI: DRP WAS AWARDED A GRANT OF $30,000 IN DECEMBER 2019 BY THE CONSERVATION FOOD AND HEALTH FOUNDATION TO CONTINUE IMPLEMENTATION OF A YOUTH HEALTH PROJECT IN MALAWI. THE PROJECT IS TO CONCLUDE IN SEPTEMBER 2020 AND INCLUDES TWO PARTNER RADIO STATIONS. THE PROJECT IS IDENTICAL IN SCOPE TO THE POPULATION REFERENCE BUREAU PROJECT. ACTIVITIES: A BASELINE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED IN DECEMBER 2018 TO IDENTIFY KEY ISSUES RELATING TO THE YOUTH FRIENDLY HEALTH SERVICES STRATEGY IN THE TWO COMMUNITIES -- ONE IN THE NORTHERN PART OF MALAWI IN MZUZU AND THE OTHER IN THE SOUTH IN MULANJE. IT WAS FOUND THAT FEW YOUTH AND PARENTS WERE AWARE OF THE YFHS AVAILABLE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. AS A RESULT, DRP IS TRAINING APPROXIMATELY 45 YOUTH REPORTERS. THEY'VE BEEN PRODUCING EIGHT PROGRAMS PER MONTH SINCE JANUARY 2019 -- ADDITIONALLY, THE STATIONS ARE PRODUCING 6-8 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS PER MONTH. DRP WILL CONDUCT 3 REMOTE TRAININGS AT EACH OF THE TWO STATIONS. BASED UPON THE ABOVE FACTS & CIRCUMSTANCES, WE BELIEVE THAT DRP IS OPERATING AS & SHOULD CONTINUE TO BE CLASSIFIED AS A PUBLIC CHARITY.
