“Developing radio partners is a nonprofit and media development organization which works with teams operating local radio stations in developing countries. They provide them with the skills. Content and methodologies they need to bring reliable information services on development topics to their listeners. Drp was active in zambia, cape verde, rwanda and cameroon. Zambia: drp received a grant from the university corporation for atmospheric research (ucar) that began in june 2015 and was to be completed in august 2016, however, drp received a no cost extension to the project through august 2017. The total amount of the award was 171, 960 usd. The objective of the project was to assist community-based radio stations and the national meteorological department to help farmers understand the weather and adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. The project involved eleven partner radio stations throughout zambia. Activities training was carried out at each radio station and there was follow-up monitoring and mentoring throughout the year. Impact - zambia activity: yatsani fm organizes a drp-sponsored community activity on sanitation and hygiene in a lusaka neighborhood hard hit by a cholera outbreak in march and april 2016. Hundreds of citizens take part in a day of music, poetry, dance, drama and speeches. Impact: the lusaka city council and community members launched an intensive trash pick-up campaign in the neighborhood. There have been no new outbreaks of cholera in this compound. Activity: mkushi community radio does a radio program on the harm caused by deforestation and planting of crops on river banks. Impact: five traditional leaders in different parts of mkushi -- namely munsakamba, milombwe, myafi, nkolonga and mikunku have started discouraging human economic activities, such as deforestation and river bank cultivation. Activity: yatsani fm in lusaka produces weekly programs (30 minutes long) and seedlings (1-2 minute programs) on a variety of environmental issues as part of the drp project. Impact: as a result of these programs, yatsani radio has witnessed more organizations seeking partnerships with the station to address environmental issues and climate change, in particular. Yatsani has become a source for the distribution of important adaptation and mitigation information on climate change. Activity: yatsani fm produced a documentary on organic vegetable farming. Impact: a group of women in bauleni village near lusaka formed a cooperative to cultivate organic vegetables. Activity: as a result of a drp weekly bulletin produced in february 2016, yatsani fm in lusaka produced a radio program on how to avoid getting cholera during an outbreak at that time in some lusaka neighborhoods. The program also focused on how some water companies were exploiting the situation by charging high prices for clean, safe water. Impact: embarrassed by the radio program, the lusaka water and sewerage company began to provide free water to kanyama, johnleigh, chibolya and chinika compounds. Activity: drp workshop in july 2013 on climate change and adaptive farming techniques. Impact: radio reporter laura hamusonde in mazabuka began helping farmers who were already adapting their farming techniques to produce their own shows to convince other farmers to adopt "green" techniques. Initially, twenty farmers were involved and they trained 200 other farmers. When the innovative farmers visited other farmers to demonstrate the techniques, ms hamusonde's station went, too, and broadcasts the demonstrations live. Activity: mkushi community radio held a drp-funded community activity at a school in mikunku - a heavily deforested area. Impact: about 200 people planted 700 eucalyptus and pine trees on about one hectare of deforested land. The activity was broadcast live on mkushi radio. Cape verde, cameroon and rwanda drp was active in all three countries during the period of july 2015 through may 31, 2016. The total amount of the award was”
“Impact cameroon activity: lebialem community radio produced a radio program urging those living near a forest reserve to stop cutting the forests for charcoal and to stop hunting in the preserve. Impact: fifty people, including ten women, living near the tofala wildlife sanctuary have started bee-farming. Also 20 people who used to hunt the preserve have started raising pigs. The radio station, working with a local ngo, provided training and free piglets to the hunters. Activity: lebialem community radio produced several programs on the many benefits of the tofala wildlife sanctuary in lebialem. Impact: a neighboring community, upper bayang, has agreed to create their own community forest after hearing about the success of the wildlife sanctuary in lebialem. Activity: lebialem community radio produces and broadcasts short climate change features, called seedlings, each day. Some of the seedlings encourage listeners to plant trees. Impact: more than 600 seedlings have been planted around the water catchment of the government bilingual primary school in the lebialem division. This is to improve the water quality and protect it from drying up. The tree species are acacia, angustissima and leucaena and were planted 07 september 2016 by the pupils and their parents. Activity: lebialem has broadcast a seedling that included a poem about the environment by cameroonian poet ekpe inyang. Impact: the radio station has launched a competition for students of government bilingual high school to explain the meaning of the poem. The purpose is to measure the degree of their understanding of the poem and to encourage the students to get involved in climate change issues. A prize of 5000 cfa frs (about 9 usd) will be awarded to the student who best describes the poem and commits to protecting the environment. Activity: bonakanda rural radio in beau, cameroon produces at least four radio programs each month on environmental issues. Impact: as a result of these programs, community-based organizations around mount cameroon, are realizing the importance of community radio as a powerful medium to promote climate change discussions and educate the community. Through the radio station, these cbo's are creating greater awareness of climate issues and, among other things, providing free trees to communities. One organization, global hand, has partnered with bonakanda radio to promote sustainable forest development in 41 communities in the mount cameroon area. Activity: bonakanda community radio in buea produced a radio program on the benefits of rain harvesting to irrigate vegetable crops during the dry season or when rainfall drops. Impact: dozens of farmers along the slopes of mount cameroon have begun to harvest rain water. "i have tomatoes when most people don't have tomatoes," says idah mwambo, who is 56. "my harvest has increased and i make more money because off-season tomatoes are more expensive." activity: drp weekly bulletin and mentoring session at lebialem community radio in menji, cameroon, on the need to protect the water supply. Reporters produce a radio program on the issue. Impact: water management committees formed in 25 villages. Menji water authority official philip forchap says there "has been a floodgate of applications for the council authority to create water management committees." activity: as a result of drp mentoring, lebialem community radio in menji, cameroon produced a program on the harmful effects of farmers burning grassland. Impact: lebialem divisional delegation of environment and nature protection in collaboration with the mayor of menji issued a decision forbidding the burning of grass across the division. Most farmers have stopped the practice. Activity: lebialem community radio in menji, southwestern cameroon has launched a campaign to plant five thousand fruit trees in 20 communities along the nveh river in order to conserve its banks. The station is working with the chief, forchap, of nveh. The station hosts a”
“Uncertain tax positions under asc 740 drp has adopted an accounting standard regarding uncertain tax positions. The standard prescribes a minimum threshold that a tax position is required to meet in order to be recognized in the financial statements. Drp believes that it had no uncertain tax positions as defined in the standard and, as a result, the adoption of the standard has had no impact on drp's financial statements.”
