“Committee meetings are not currently recorded in writing. Each respective chair takes notes and reports back to the governing body at board meetings, at which point, notes and actions are recorded.”
“The organization provides a copy of the form 990 to all members of its governing body in a timely manner”
“The purpose of the conflicts of interest policy is to ensure that the deliberations and decisions of the organization are made in the interests of the education community as a whole, and to protect the interests of the organization when it is contemplating entering into a transaction, contract, or arrangement that might benefit the private interest of an interested director, officer or person. An interested director, officer or person may not use his or her position with respect to the organization, or confidential organization information obtained by him or her relating to the organization, in order to achieve a financial benefit for himself or herself or for a third person, including another nonprofit or charitable organization. This policy is intended to supplement but not replace any applicable laws governing conflicts of interest in nonprofit and charitable organizations. The board shall create a "conflicts committee", to consist of at least two directors elected by the board. No director shall serve on the committee while he is also serving as an officer. The committee shall administer and monitor compliance with this policy. The conflicts committee shall require a statement from each director and officer not less frequently than once a year setting forth all business and other affiliations, which relate in any way to the business and other activities of the organization. No director shall vote on any matter in which he or she has a direct financial interest that will be affected by the outcome of the vote. In the event of such an abstention, the abstaining director shall state the reason for the abstention, which shall be noted in the minutes of the board of directors.”
“The board may establish the amount of compensation provided to directors. The compensation may include payment of a fixed sum and reimbursement of expenses actually incurred in connection with their duties, including, without limitation, attendance at regular or special meetings of the board. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to preclude any director from serving the corporation in any other capacity and receiving compensation therefor.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | IN AN EFFORT TO CLOSE THE TECHNOLOGY GAP, CONCEPTS FOR ADAPTIVE LEARNING (CFAL) PROGRAMS AND SERVICES OFFER FREE TECHNOLOGY TRAINING AND RESOURCES TO LOW-INCOME FAMILIES THROUGH TWO MAIN PROGRAMS: DIGITAL LITERACY AND TECHNOLOGY & COMPUTER TRAINING. CFAL'S DIGITAL LITERACY SERVES PARENTS AND CHILDREN FROM PRESCHOOL THROUGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. CFAL'S TECHNOLOGY & COMPUTER TRAINING PROGRAM TEACHES ADULTS, INCLUDING SENIOR CITIZENS, BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS, AND PROVIDES A REFURBISHED COMPUTER TO PARTICIPANTS WHO DO NOT HAVE A WORKING COMPUTER IN THE HOME.(SEE SCHEDULE O)DIGITAL LITERACYCFAL'S DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAM INCREASES DIGITAL LITERACY AND EXPANDED LEARNING TO LOW-INCOME NEW HAVEN FAMILIES, EMPHASIZING HOW TO EXPAND LEARNING ONLINE TOGETHER. DIGITAL LITERACY REDUCES THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP BY PROVIDING LOW-INCOME FAMILIES WITH THE TOOLS NEEDED TO EXPAND EDUCATION AND LITERACY TO THE HOME BY PROVIDING TABLETS FILLED WITH EDUCATIONAL APPLICATIONS, AND TEACHING CAREGIVERS BEST PRACTICES FOR USING TECHNOLOGY SAFELY IN THE HOME. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES TO PRE-KINDERGARTEN THROUGH ELEMENTARY STUDENTS; TEACHES FAMILIES HOW TO BEST USE ONLINE RESOURCES TO EXPAND LEARNING MINIMIZING PRESSURES ON CAREGIVERS DURING THIS STRESSFUL TIME; AND PROVIDES TEACHERS WITH ADDITIONAL TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES THAT WERE NOT ACCESSIBLE DUE TO BUDGETARY RESTRICTIONS. DIGITAL LITERACY FOR EARLY LEARNERS (DLEL) PROVIDES EACH FAMILY WITH A CHILD ATTENDING A PRESCHOOL OR PUBLIC SCHOOL PARTNERING WITH CFAL RECEIVES A TABLET PRE-LOADED WITH EDUCATIONAL APPLICATIONS FOR PRESCHOOLERS AND KINDERGARTENERS. PARENTS ATTEND WORKSHOPS MONTHLY FOCUSED ON BEST PRACTICES TO EXPAND LEARNING TO THE HOME AND TO USE INTERNET SAFELY IN THE HOME. TABLETS ARE MANAGED REMOTELY USING A MOBILE DEVICE MANAGEMENT PLATFORM THAT SECURES DEVICES TO ENSURE THAT ONLY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS CAN BE ACCESSED. FOR EXAMPLE, TABLETS ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCESS HULU, NETFLIX OR ONLINE VIDEO GAMES AND FAMILIES ARE NOT ABLE TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS NOT APPROVED FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES. THIS PLATFORM ALSO ALLOWS US TO UNDERSTAND HOW TABLETS ARE BEING USED ON A REGULAR BASIS. WITH CLASSDOJO, ZOOM AND GOOGLE MEETS AVAILABLE ON THE TABLET, TEACHERS USE THE DEVICE TO INCREASE PARENTAL ENGAGEMENT.DURING 2020, THE DLEL FOR PRESCHOOL FAMILIES SERVED 88 PARENTS AND CHILDREN. AS A RESULT OF THIS PROGRAM: 90% OF CAREGIVERS REPORTED LEARNING ABOUT THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON CHILD DEVELOPMENT THROUGH OUR PROGRAM; 77% OF CAREGIVERS ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN STUDENT LEARNING THROUGHOUT THE PROGRAM USING THE TABLETS; AND 85% OF TABLETS WERE USED DAILY BY STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO ENGAGE IN EXPANDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES TO THE HOME. THROUGH PARENT WORKSHOPS, MORE THAN 80% OF ADULTS INCREASED THEIR AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF DANGERS RELATED TO NOT MONITORING CHILDREN'S USE OF TECHNOLOGY AND EXCESS USE OF TECHNOLOGY BY CHILDREN.DIGITAL LITERACY FOR MATH STARSFOR FAMILIES WITH ELEMENTARY AGE CHILDREN, AND WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT MATH PLAYS A FUNDAMENTAL ROLE IN DIGITAL LITERACY, CFAL'S, DIGITAL LITERACY FOR MATH STARS PROGRAM FOCUSES ON HELPING ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH MATH SKILLS.
