“Prior to filing form 990, the finance and audit committee and the executive director review the return and approve the information. Any required information from board members is acquired. Form 990 is then circulated to the board of directors for review, questions and comments. Form 990 is then signed and filed.”

“The center provided the following other program services for the fiscal year 2017: young shoots digital photography contest: the westport arts center (wac) and community partners collaborate on young shoots, a student digital photography competition for ages 8-18. The competition is designed to enable students to demonstrate their creativity and originality through the digital photography medium and to showcase the local color and vibrancy of the community. Westport artists' collective: the westport artists' collective is a group of creative individuals who have joined forces to discuss, create, and develop dynamic experiences for the fairfield county community. The collective is open to all active artists in pursuit of expanding their careers and in developing a strong, diverse arts community. Membership art trips: the center offered a guided trip to members to italy to assist them in learning and appreciating global arts. The westport arts center offers a strong community collaborations program, working with other regional non-profit organizations, including the westport farmers' market, the national charity league, and the westport library, to bring enhanced programming to the community.”

“The center's executive director and audit committee assume responsibility for oversight of the audit of the financial statements and selection of independent accountant. The center's executive director, audit committee and bookkeeper hold a regularly scheduled conference call to discuss the center's monthly financial results, comparison to budget, and outlook for the remainder of the fiscal year. The results of the conference call are shared with the executive committee and full board each month.”

“The 2016 tax filing was amended as a result of additional information made available subsequent to initial filing. Total revenue decreased $25,604 from $817,042 to $791,438. Total expenses decreased by $3,396 from $957,653 to $954,257. Total unrestricted net assets decreased by $22,208. Part ix, expense allocations from progam, management and general, and fundraising were updated to reflect updated information obtained. Part x, balance sheet was updated to reflect decrease in accounts receivable of $35,199, increase in prepaid expenses of $5,000 and decrease in accounts payable of $7,337. Schedule a was updated for changes in revenue/contributions. Schedule b was updated for changes in contributions, exclusion of donated space (originally included in contributions), and updated addresses for some contributers. Schedule g was updated to reflect an additional $87,449 of total gala gross proceeds as gross income instead of contributions. Program descriptions were updated as well.”
