Activity 2

Research: The University engages in extensive research in medicine, the physical sciences, the social sciences and humanities. The University's research activities are aimed at the advancement of knowledge as well as training students in the research process. Included among the University's outstanding research facilities are laboratories and other facilities devoted to research in geology, chemistry, biology, engineering and applied science, anthropology, paleontology, molecular and structural biology, nuclear structure, child development, social policy, biospheric studies and numerous biomedical sciences, to name but a few.

Activity 3

Student Aid and Services: Yale College admits students on the basis of academic and personal promise and without regard to their ability to pay. Once a student is admitted, Yale awards financial aid that meets 100% of that student's demonstrated financial need. All aid is need-based; there are no athletic or merit based awards. This policy helps to ensure that Yale will always be accessible to talented students from the widest possible range of backgrounds. Furthermore, Yale's admission process is need blind, so that no applicant is denied admission to Yale because of his or her family's financial situation. Applicants from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds may be eligible for need-based aid. In FY2010, 2,912 or 55 percent of undergraduates received need-based scholarships or grants from Yale sources of $34,400 on average. This category of expenditures also includes: the operation of dining halls that provided 2,610,289 meals to students, faculty and staff; maintenance of dormitories housing 4,650 undergraduates and 884 graduate and professional school students; operation and maintenance of athletic facilities, for the 35 intercollegiate sports, over 35 intramural sports and 50 club sport teams offered at Yale as well as more than 75 sections of physical education instruction, parking facilities, laundry facilities, student centers and other facilities and programs (including extracurricular activities and student health services) that provide support, services and academic/cultural enrichment to the University's students.Form 990, Part III, Line 4dOther program services include academic support, public service and other institutional support.
