“-Trained 2 low wealth and or people of color on sustainable agriculture skills. -Increased monthly maintenance clients.”

“Community garden network-create a network for individual gardens to collaborate sharing resources, hosting events, securing volunteers, and fundraising. -partnered with intern from unc asheville to conduct in person community garden assessment of 24 gardens in asheville and buncombe county. -provided 24 gardens stipends for completing assessment, these gardens are located in neighborhoods, schools, and churches. Several of them serve low wealth and people of color -hired 1 staff positions to be the network garden coordinator, determined to be the urgent need from the assessment for success of this program. The position is a person of color and part of the cgn.-developed infrastructure for community garden network. -hosted monthly meetings for the cgn.”

“Urban Agriculture Alliance-4 non-profits and community members working together through the Collective Impact framework, to build a food secure Buncombe County. -Held facilitated meetings every 3 weeks from January through December with Executive Directors of 3 organizations and leadership from other organization. -Provided stipends for community members to participate in the meetings of the UAA.”

“Strong Roots-program focused on math and science skills interfacing with on site gardens. -Hired 1 staff low wealth person of color to teach the program. -Piloted program with City of Asheville Parks and Recreation after school program reaching 12 youth. -Shared curriculum with Shiloh Community to implement, reaching over 20 youth. -Revised the curriculum to better align to be culturally appropriate for the communities where program is implemented. -Continue to seek funding for this program”

“Farmer Incubations/Markets-supports agriculture based emerging food systems leaders who are low resourced and or people of color. -Support incubation of Patchwork Urban Farm at the Pearson Garden location (owned by Bountiful Cities). Patchwork Urban Farms has 2 paid interns teaching sustainable agriculture skills and employees 2 positions. -Supports Ujaama Freedom Market a cooperative mobile market that has 2 owners who are considered low wealth, women and people. -Provided organizational resources for coaching and grant writing. -Shares organizational resources for success of food based businesses.”

“Policy/Advocacy -Executive Director and Staff attend monthly General council meeting and also 3 clusters of the Asheville Buncombe Food Policy Council. -Executive Director attends monthly meetings of the AFSP. -Executive Director attends monthly meetings of WNCAFSP. -Staff attends quarterly meetings of the NC Sustainable Food Network a program of Carolina Farm Stewardship Association.”
