We focus on the effective integration of land use and transportation strategy, community revitalization, agriculture, forest conservation.

Grow smart rhode island's form 990 is prepared by its outside auditing firm and it is reviewed in detail by the executive assistant for finance and the executive director.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

Because grow smart ri is a small organization in which the executive director has extensive and regular contact with board officers, there is no formal written review of the executive director's yearly performance. There is however an organizational work plan that is developed at budget time which is reviewed by the grow smart executive committee and then is presented to the full board of directors. Included in this work plan are the accomplishments of the prior year and the goals and objectives for the future year of the organization. The budget is reviewed in detail showing the expected rates of increase in compensation for all staff. After the budget and work plan have been approved by the board of directors and at the time of the executive director's anniversary date, a salary increase form is approved and signed by the chairman of the board.

The board has delegated to the executive committee the responsibility for oversight of the financial audit. The executive committee meets with the outside auditors to ensure that the audit has been completed and to address any significant findings that have been raised by the auditors.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal income taxes as a charitable organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and is not classified as a private foundation. The organization evaluates its uncertain tax positions using the guidance for contingencies as contained in u.s. Generally accepted accounting principles. The organization was not aware of any uncertain tax positions that were not provided for in the accompanying financial statements. The organization annually files internal revenue service form 990 - return of organization exempt from income tax, reporting various information that the irs uses to monitor the activities of tax-exempt entities. The tax return is subject to review by the taxing authorities generally for three years after filing. The organization currently has no tax examinations in progress.
