Activity 2

Save the bay's education program, explore the bay, is a hands-on, inquiry based, marine education program that engages higher level thinking in its participants. In fiscal year 2011, explore the bay educators had 24,114 contacts with students from the narragansett bay watershed and ri south coastal ponds. This breaks down to 15,213 individual students served through 761 programs. Some students had multiple explore the bay education programs throughout their school year. Save the bay's education program has many resources used to introduce students to the wonders of narragansett bay, including; two coast guard certified education vessels, save the bay's exploration center and aquarium, two classrooms/labs at our bay center in providence, in addition to equipment used to bring narragansett bay into student classrooms or along the shoreline.save the bay's education programs are fee based. In order to make our programming more accessible to students from the urban core and urban ring communities of rhode island, we seek funding to help lower the cost for these students. The amount of discount/program subsidy is based on the rhode island department of education's publication information works! Schools receive a program and bussing subsidy based on the percentage their school receives according to the free lunch program in information works!.

Activity 3

The goal of save the bay's connect program is to inform and educate stakeholders about the programs, policies and advocacy efforts of our non-profit organization while supporting the success of our event and development teams through regular and consistent messaging. Outreach is achieved through press releases, letters to the editor, opinion-editorials, e-alerts, our web site, you tube video production, speeches in the community, an annual report/meeting, and our quarterly magazine, tides. The connect team also manages corporate partners and member communication.
