“Education: ppl places education front and center. The library strives to be a supportive, welcoming environment where learners at any skill level have opportunities to connect and access information and technology that enables them to achieve their goals. We aim to be a cornerstone of the community as a premier learning place and we continually adapt and innovate to meet our community's changing needs. From free computer classes, to special programs and events for children and families, to diverse discussions, lectures, presentations, signature workforce development classes and workshops, ppl offers free and accessible learning opportunities for all ages. Statistics for fye 6/30/24: adult education: language pathways rifli classes: 428 esl students enrolled and reached 12+ or more hours of class instruction and 911 additional students inquired and/or registered for the program. 31 students who were unemployed started a job while they were enrolled in our program. Over 50% of all enrolled students who attended classes for 40 hours or more increased an educational functioning level. 172 adult learners enrolled in digital literacy classes and 274 attained an industry-recognized northstar digital literacy certificates. Citizenship classes: 108 permanent residents enrolled in citizenship preparation classes and 55 passed their interviews, becoming naturalized u.s. Citizens. Technology pathways technology training programs - microsoft excel pathways training: 33 learners enrolled in microsoft excel for career pathways (16) and professional pathways (17) for english language learners. All 33 learners completed the program. 137 northstar certificates (60 certificates on ms excel, basic computer skills, internet and email were earned during level 1 training from sep to december 2023 and 77 northstar certificates were earned by level 2 students during the period from march to may 2024, including certificates in microsoft excel, microsoft word, microsoft powerpoint, internet basics, and using emails. 17 students enrolled in level 2 completed certificates from udemy for the course "excel at work-complete ms excel mastery beginner to pro." through asynchronous learning during march to may 2024. Digital equity and learning projects: 169 adult learners and older adults attended fifty-four (54) in-person and virtual pla's digitallearn 2-hour workshops in english or spanish. In-person instruction was facilitated at the american job centers in providence and west warwick, as well as at the cranston senior enrichment center. The workshops covered the topics of internet basics, video conferencing basics, cybersecurity basics, email basics, and mobile device basics (android and ios). All attendees completed a feedback survey; 94% of respondents strongly agreed with the statement: "you feel more knowledgeable about using digital resources", and 92% strongly agreed with the statement: "you feel more confident when using digital resources." 106 adult learners and older adults participated in twenty-three (23) 12-hour computer classes. The classes covered basic computer skills, internet navigation, use of email, facebook, privacy and security online, and microsoft word, excel, and powerpoint basics. 47% of learners attained industry-recognized northstar digital literacy certificates, and 83% achieved an education goal by improving basic skills (including those who attained a certificate). 238 adult learners and older adults received one-on-one support in english or spanish in 1-hour sessions, in-person or virtually, to develop digital skills for just-in-time needs and achieve their learning goals in a professional, technology-assisted environment. “Programs & exhibitions: ppl offers programming & exhibitions featuring ppl's special and historical collections, impactful cultural and educational programs, and engaging community experiences and events. Statistics for fye 6/30/24: programs: stem advantage and stem club - during 36 sessions throughout the school year and summer, participants learned about a range of stem topics, with a particular focus on water conservation, engineering, and endangered animals. Participants are paired with teen mentors and learn about different careers within stem. 393 youth participated, with 3 - 5 teen mentors per cohort. Young creators - there were 7 young creator program series throughout the year (comic book drawing, drumming, puppet making, writing, dance, water colors, and sewing) with 196 participants. Stem tales (grant funded program) - stem tales is a series program that offers a unique opportunity for children to see and hear from a diverse group of scientists, astronauts, and engineers. Stem tales will prompt conversation and experimentation based on activities provided or created. The take-home activities will enhance and enrich learning at home with participants' families. There were 3 sessions with 30 youth participants. Workshop- open studio - 855 visits (with 104 sessions) broken down as follows: youth 193 teens 190 adults 472 programs- immigrant podcasting (grant funded program) - a series program that teaches participants about storytelling and how to create a podcast - 4 teens and 5 adults participated and earned a $100 stipend. Computer aided design & 3d printing - a semester-long program designed to teach teens the fundamentals of autodesk 3d/cad design software, and how to use it to design, model, and create 3d objects. There were 9 students who participated in 22 sessions. Additionally, students learned work readiness skills including career exploration, resume writing, interview skills, and financial literacy (students earned $350 stipends and high school credit). Youth maker camp (week long program) - participants learned how to use makerspace equipment - 10 participants workshop equipment trainings (series, every monday evening) - 29 sessions, 225 participants pvdym weekly meetings - 101 visits other programs and exhibitions: film screenings with community partners: 4 lectures with humanities scholars: 3 public conversations on current issues, presented with community partners: 5 participatory workshops: 6 readings: 2 performances: 2 attendance across all programs: 1,210 community-curated exhibitions: 12 exhibition-related programs (openings, closings, curators' tours, artists' talks/workshops): 13 note: due to public locations of exhibitions spaces throughout the library, it's not possible to count attendance during this period we were awarded a highly competitive major grant from ri humanities and a project grant from the ri state council on the arts.
