Mission

Company one theatre was founded in 1998 to integrate boston audiences, challenge the city's social divides and foster a new generation of theatre-makers and theatregoers. Since then we have become a nationally renowned, award-winning theatre company in residence at the boston center for the arts. Mission: company one theatre builds community at the intersection of art and social change. Vision: a boston defined by justice, equity, and artistic innovation. Manifesto: welcome to our community, where every audience member, artist, student, and supporter has the opportunity to fight for social justice. At company one: we strive to create intentional, authentic theatrical experiences that uniquely integrate content, style, space, and community. We amplify new stories and adventurous theatrical forms to define what's next in the american theatre. We focus on growing our students' authority, voice, and point of view, while developing artists into the next generation of change-makers. Our work

Company one theatre was founded in 1998 to integrate boston audiences, challenge the city's social divides and foster a new generation of theatre-makers and theatregoers. Since then we have become a nationally renowned, award-winning theatre company in residence at the boston center for the arts. Our mission is to change the face of boston theatre by uniting the city's diverse communities through innovative, socially provocative performance and developing civically engaged artists.

15-22) theatrical training and summer employment in a positive, creative and safe space. Apprentices form a pre-professional theatre company and are mentored by professionals in the field. Two session were run, the first from dec-may, serving 6 students, and a six-week summer program serving 7 students. Professional development for actors- company one theatre offers this adult class designed for working actors and actors trying to break into the profession. These classes, run by professional acting coaches and directors, help actors continue to develop their performance skills while preparing them for auditions. Class graduates have gone on to work in nearly every theatre in boston. Two 7 week sessions were run, serving a total of 50 students. Xx playlab: propelling women playwrights, in collaboration with the boston center for the arts- xx is a program that supports, develops and propels the work of female playwrights.

COMPANY ONE'S ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENTS PROVIDE SCHOOL DAY INSTRUCTION FOCUSING ON STUDENT WRITTEN WORK AND PERFORMANCE, CULMINATING IN A SCHOOL-WIDE PERFORMANCE. THESE SCHOOLS INCLUDED: ANOTHER COURSE TO COLLEGE, BOSTON ADULT TECHNICAL ACADEMY, BURKE HIGH SCHOOL, FENWAY HIGH SCHOOL, AND URBAN SCIENCE ACADEMY. WE SERVED A TOTAL OF 189 STUDENTS. STAGE ONE: APPRENTICESHIP -THE APPRENTICE PROGRAM OFFERS AREA YOUTH (AGES 15-22) THEATRICAL TRAINING AND SUMMER EMPLOYMENT IN A POSITIVE, CREATIVE AND SAFE SPACE. APPRENTICES FORM A PRE-PROFESSIONAL THEATRE COMPANY AND ARE MENTORED BY PROFESSIONALS IN THE FIELD. TWO SESSION WERE RUN, THE FIRST FROM DEC-MAY, SERVING 6 STUDENTS, AND A SIX-WEEK SUMMER PROGRAM SERVING 7 STUDENTS. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ACTORS- COMPANY ONE THEATRE OFFERS THIS ADULT CLASS DESIGNED FOR WORKING ACTORS AND ACTORS TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE PROFESSION. THESE CLASSES, RUN BY PROFESSIONAL ACTING COACHES AND DIRECTORS, HELP ACTORS CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THEIR PERFORMANCE SKILLS WHILE PREPARING THEM FOR AUDITIONS. CLASS GRADUATES HAVE GONE ON TO WORK IN NEARLY EVERY THEATRE IN BOSTON. TWO 7 WEEK SESSIONS WERE RUN, SERVING A TOTAL OF 50 STUDENTS. XX PLAYLAB: PROPELLING WOMEN PLAYWRIGHTS, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE BOSTON CENTER FOR THE ARTS- XX IS A PROGRAM THAT SUPPORTS, DEVELOPS AND PROPELS THE WORK OF FEMALE PLAYWRIGHTS.
