IRS990/Desc01.Following a strategic planning process, we undertook a number of steps to improve member engagement in the Coming Clean network. a.We launched three new member-driven teams on Cumulative Impacts & Mandatory Emissions Reductions, Chemicals, Food/Agriculture & Climate, and Funder Engagement & Joint Fundraising. b.We hired two new positions tasked with deepening member engagement:i.The Network Organizer role deepens member commitment by encouraging and monitoring member collaboration, communication, and involvement. ii.The Communications Strategist role improves both member and network- wide communications, ensuring they are clear, consistent, and reaching a broad audience. c.We improved communication and resource-sharing across the network, by purchasing and rolling out Groups.io, an online tool that is both a listserv and a members-only portal that fixes previous limitations and strengthens communication and resource-sharing across the network. Key features include a member directory; resource library and archives; calendar and event notifications; a member-driven request board; and the ability to search and sort our busy on-line information sharing by topic. 2.The Campaign for Healthier Solutions (CHS) achieved three major victories over the past year, each of which has the potential to increase environmental health protections, particularly for environmental justice communities, and to help drive the market to safer chemicals by reducing sourcing of known toxic chemicals by the top three dollar store retailers: a.Dollar General Corporation committed to its first ever chemicals policy, agreeing to eliminate eight toxic chemicals in all private label cleaning and beauty and personal care products by December 2022. b.According to Dollar Trees second sustainability report (reporting that was compelled by our campaign), Dollar Tree is on track to eliminate the 17 chemicals we pushed them to identify and ban from their private label .c.99 Cents Only met directly with CHS on our chemical policy demands and agreed to begin discussions with us to develop a restricted chemical list. 3.The Environmental Justice Health Alliance (EJHA), in strategic partnership with Coming Clean, was instrumental in generating unprecedented momentum through the following efforts:a.The forging of the Equitable and Just Climate Platform a historic, bold platform for equitable climate and energy policy between environmental justice networks, EJ groups and national environmental groups. A critical contribution of EJHAs is the requirement that action on chemicals be considered essential to any climate policy action.b.Development of the Principles for Environmental Justice Legislation as well as model policies on cumulative impacts.c.Release of No Community Left Behind, a short video co-created by EJHA and Center for American Progress highlighting the story of Christine and Delma Bennett, longtime residents of Mossville, Louisiana, who have suffered from years of exposure to toxic pollution and environmental racism. 4.We began a major effort to update and revitalize the Louisville Charter for Safer Chemicals, driven by a working group of some 25 network members and Coming Clean staff.
