FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Boston casa is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure a safe and permanent home for court involved children, who have experienced abuse and neglect, in suffolk and middlesex counties. Boston casa recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who are appointed by judges to serve as guardians ad litem (gals) to advocate for children and youth most often in the foster care system. Our volunteers not only zealously advocate for these vulnerable children and youth, but also serve as a safe, consistent, and positive presence during what is a very traumatic time in their lives. Through our older youth advocacy project, volunteers support youth ages 16 and older who will or have aged out of the foster care system. They provide these youth with ongoing relational support during this critical time and ensure that the youth receive the necessary resources in order to be well positioned for greater independence.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Boston casa works with some of the most vulnerable individuals in our community: court-involved children in suffolk and middlesex counties who have experienced abuse and neglect. Founded as a state-run program in 1982, boston casa (court appointed special advocates became a nonprofit in 2012 to expand operations through philanthropic support. Since then, it has grown from serving 60 children to over 300 in 2024. More than 80 percent of our children are bipoc, reflecting many of our society's most challenging issues, including domestic violence, substance abuse, poverty, lgbtq discrimination, and racial and social injustices. In fy23, boston casa developed a five-year strategic growth plan to increase the total number of children and youth served in suffolk and middlesex counties from 15 percent to 47 percent by 2028. Boston casa is in the second year of this ambitious plan for growth. In the first year of the plan, boston casa built infrastructure to recruit and train more volunteers and increased fundraising by 25% over fy 23, enabling the addition of staff in january 2025. In fy 24, it surpassed its goal of pairing 100 children with new casas, reaching 108. In fy 25, it set a goal of 120 new pairings and is currently on pace to exceed 140 new cases paired with casas.
