Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The boston area rape crisis center has a mission to end sexual violence through healing and social change. Today, though much has improved, sexual violence remains an urgent public health and safety problem, with profound medical, emotional, and financial consequences for victims, families and communities. We are the only provider of comprehensive rape crisis services in the greater boston area, which includes 29 cities and towns and over 1.5 million people. The barcc staff of 28 and 150 volunteers serve 4,900 victims and their families each year, and touch another 10,000 through outreach, education, and training.

Community awareness and prevention services (caps): the community awareness & prevention services department offers the following services. The statistics are for the period july 1, 2011 through june 30, 2012.-community awareness & outreach events - 245 events -educational sessions for middle, high school and college students and community groups. -professional trainings for staff at agencies who work with survivors of sexual violence including police officers, staff at colleges, and medical professionals. -train volunteers who provide services to barcc clients
