Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Emmanuel music is dedicated to enriching the life of the community through the transformative power of music. Expanding on a 40-year tradition of presenting weekly bach cantatas in a liturgical setting, we perform concert repertoire from baroque to contemporary in large and small ensembles, inviting audiences to explore and discover familiar and unfamiliar masterworks. The commitment and discipline of performing together more than 50 times a year nurtures a core of established and emerging musicians and fosters unparalleled artistic excellence. In our outreach we are committed to training the next generation of musicians, mentoring young students, and inspiring broad audiences in free concerts, lectures, and master classes.

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XXI, LINE 2C:

There has been no change in the proceess from the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The accounting standard on accounting for uncertainty in income taxes addresses the determination of whether tax benefits claimed or expected to be claimed on a tax return should be recorded in the financial statements. Under that guidance, the organization may recognize the tax benefit from an uncertain tax position only if it is more likely than not that the tax position will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities based on the technical merits of the position. Examples of tax positions include the tax-exempt status of the organization and various positions related to the potential sources of unrelated business taxable income (ubit). The tax benefits recognized in the financial statements from such a position are measured based on the largest benefit that has a greater than 5o% likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement. There were no unrecognized tax benefits identified or recorded as liabilities for fiscal year 2014 and 2013. The organization applies generally accepted accounting principles to its accounting for uncertain tax positions. Management has determined that the organization has no material uncertain tax positions as of august 31, 2014 and 2013. The organization remains subject to examination by major tax jurisdictions for the years ended august 31, 2012 through august 31, 2014, inclusive.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0THE ACCOUNTING STANDARD ON ACCOUNTING FOR UNCERTAINTY IN INCOME TAXES ADDRESSES THE DETERMINATION OF WHETHER TAX BENEFITS CLAIMED OR EXPECTED TO BE CLAIMED ON A TAX RETURN SHOULD BE RECORDED IN THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS.
