Activity 2

Learning and Teaching: EDC programs can be found in school districts and classrooms in all 50 U.S. states. Work in school reform, mathematics, science, technology, and literacy included such projects as creation of a new National Center on Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness, funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Developing Effective Schools Center, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. EDC conducted research, for example, a study of multimedia programming for PBS and a report on principal preparation for The Wallace Foundation. One of 10 education research laboratories, the Regional Educational Laboratory Northeast and Islands at EDC conducted large-scale studies and fast response reviews on requested issues such as bullying pervention and teacher retention. A leader in early childhood education and professional development for more than 20 years, EDC provided training and supoprt got Headstart and others throughout New England.

Activity 3

Health and Human Development: Health programs encompass violence prevention focused on bullying, intentional and unintentional injury, and suicide, among other issues. EDC hosted an international conference, Addressing Imbalances: Promoting Equity in Mental Health, and shared best practices from around the world. EDC continued to create and evaluate health-related curriculum, training materials, interventions and evaluation tools for policy makers, providers and consumers. For example, EDC was asked to create education resources for groups including tribal communities across the U.S. and youth and families of the Gulf Coast affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. EDC continued to support practitioners at local, state, and national levels as well as operate several national centers including the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, the Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT), and the U.S. Department of Education's Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention which supports college and university campuses.
