“Form 990 is prepared by the external accounting firm and reviewed by the chief administrative officer and finance manager at least 5 (five) days before the final filing deadline, including any permitted extension periods. A draft of the filing is reviewed by the executive director and furnished to each member of the board of trustees for review and comment. Upon completion of any revisions, a final copy of form 990, as submitted to the irs, is distributed to all trustees prior to the final filing date.”
“Each trustee and senior staff member files an annual disclosure statement, attesting to having read and being in compliance with the conflict of interest policy of the organization, and listing all those relationships he or she, or a related party, maintains with any person or organization that does business with the organization and which constitute, or which could be construed as, material affiliations potentially affecting his or her independent, unbiased judgement in light of his or her decision-making authority or responsibility, and listing any confidential information from which he or she, or any related party to whom he or she would disclose it, receives or would anticipate receiving any substantial financial or other benefit. The executive director maintains a record of all material affiliations, benefits from confidential information and payments to affiliated persons or organizations disclosed pursuant to this policy, and recommends to the chairman of the board any such affiliations, benefits or payments which should be brought to the attention of the board of trustees or governance committee, and determines the extent to which the persons or organizations with which any such affiliations exist should be disclosed to those dealing with such persons or organizations on the organization's behalf. Whenever any contract, transaction or other matter comes before the board of trustees or one of its committees which reasonably could affect or be affected by the personal financial interest of a trustee, senior staff member or related party, such trustee or senior staff member, if present at the meeting, shall remind the board or commttee of his or her or the related party's interest and shall refrain from active participation in any decision made concerning the matter. A trustee having a potential conflict of interest with the organization shall not be counted in determining the presence of a quorum at a meeting of the applicable board or committee at the time any action is taken on any matter involving the conflict. If as to any particular potental conflict, including but not limited to potential benefit from confidential information, the board of trustees determines that these provisions are inadequate to protect the best interest of the organization, they may cause the affected trustee or senior staff member entirely to remove him or herself from any meeting involving the conflict or opportunity to obtain the information or take such other actions as they consider appropriate. For the purposes of this policy "senior staff member" means the executive director, deputy executive director, chief administrative officer, any director-level position, and any other senior executive designated by the executive director from time to time.”
“The compensation committee, comprised of independent trustees, approves and recommends to the board of trustees the compensation of the executive director and senior management annually in advance. Senior management includes in addition to the executive director, the deputy executive director, the chief administrative officer and the directors of development and marketing, who are among the highest compensated employees of the organization. In making its determination, the committee reviews publicly available nonprofit compensation surveys; compensation data for functionally comparable positions of approximately 18 similarly situated organizations compiled from the most recently available irs form 990s; and the current total compensation, including benefits and any perquisites, of the executives. The deliberations and decisions of the compensation committee are recorded contemporaneously and retained in the form of meeting minutes.”
“The organization makes its governing documents, conflict of interest policy, form 990, and audited financial statements available to the general public upon written request for the same period of disclosure as set forth in section 6104(d). In addition, form 990 without schedule b is available via guidestar and the massachusetts attorney general's website.”
“Interest rate swap loss -33,345. Change in value of perpetual trust 330,383.”
“The organization has a committee that assumes responsbility for oversight of the audit and its selection of an independent auditor. There have been no changes to this process since the prior year.”
“The organization's collections are made up of artifacts of historical significance that are held for educational, research and curatorial purposes. Each of the items is catalogued, preserved, and cared for and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed continuously. The collections are subject to a policy that requires proceeds from their sales to be used to acquire other items for collections. The collections, which were acquired through purchases and contributions since the organization's inception, are not recognized as assets on the consolidated statement of financial position. Purchases of collection items are recorded as decreases in net assets without donor restrictions in the year in which the items are acquired, or as decreases in net assets with donor restrictions if the assets used to purchase the items are restricted by donors. Contributed collection items are not reflected on the consolidated financial statements. Proceeds from deaccessions or insurance recoveries are reflected as increases in the appropriate net asset classes.”
“The organization's curatorial collections are divided into three categories: archaeology, original objects, and archives. The most significant component of the museum's collection is its archaeological materials. As the largest collection of 17th-century archaeological material from new england, this portion of the museum's holdings include artifacts that shed light on the indigenous wampanoag people and daily life of the early plymouth colonists. The archaeological collections include a large number of indigenous materials that date back over ten thousand years as well as an extensive collection of artifacts from colonial archaeological sites. In addition to owning several archaeological collections, the museum also serves as a repository for the state of massachusetts, stewarding around 500,000 artifacts. The museum's substantial originals collection are made up of a wide variety of objects including 17th-century furniture, mayflower ii materials, fine art pieces, ceramics, and books. These items are used to inform the interpretation done on our sites as well as the reproductions created by our artisans. In addition to the archaeological and original collections, archives represent 75 years of research on the 17th-century atlantic world and pre-contact indigenous societies in the northeast as well as the museum's institutional history and development as a pioneer of living history interpretation.”
“Security deposits held by the organization.”
“4.5% of the total market value calculated by a previous 12 quarters average is drawn annually to be used according to the donors' restrictions.”

PLIMOTH PATUXET OWNS AND MAINTAINS THE MAYFLOWER II, A 68-YEAR OLD, FULL SCALE REPRODUCTION OF THE VESSEL THAT BROUGHT THE PILGRIMS TO PLYMOUTH. THE MUSEUM HAS A RICH COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL ARTIFACTS THAT SHOW DAILY LIFE BETWEEN 1500 AND 1700. THE ARTIFACTS COME FROM PLACES SUCH AS NEW ENGLAND, GREAT BRITAIN, AND THE NETHERLANDS, AND REPRESENT THE MATERIAL CULTURE THAT THE PILGRIMS AND WAMPANOAG WOULD HAVE KNOWN. MUSEUM RESEARCHERS AND ARTISANS USE THE ARTIFACTS TO HELP RE-CREATE THE LIVING HISTORY EXHIBITS GUESTS SEE AT PLIMOTH PATUXET. THE MUSEUM'S EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS HELP STUDENTS EXPLORE AND UNDERSTAND AMERICA'S FOUNDING STORY. A VISIT TO PLIMOTH PATUXET PROVIDES ACCESS TO HISTORIC PLACES AND EVENTS THAT ARE VIVIDLY BROUGHT TO LIFE IN AN EVOCATIVE ENVIRONMENT. IN ADDITION, PLIMOTH PATUXET LIVING HISTORY EDUCATORS BRING THE STORY OF PLYMOUTH'S EARLIEST NATIVE AND COLONIAL RESIDENTS TO TENS OF THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS IN CLASSROOMS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. STUDENTS WHO CANNOT VISIT OR BRING A PLIMOTH PATUXET EDUCATOR TO THEIR CLASSROOM CAN ENTER THE STORY THROUGH CURATED EXHIBITS AND TEACHER RESOURCES ON WWW.PLIMOTH.ORG. |
