The museum accounts for uncertainty in income taxes in accordance with asc topic, income taxes. This standard clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in tax positions and prescribes a recognition threshold and measurement attribute for the financial statements regarding a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. The museum has determined that there are no uncertain tax positions which qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements at december 31, 2016. The museum's information returns are subject to examination by the federal and state jurisdictions.

Part III, Line 1A

The museum follows u.s. Gaap standards for collection items as they met all of the following criteria: held for public exhibition, education, or research in furtherance of public service rather than financial gain; projected, kept unencumbered, cared for, preserved; and subject to an organizational policy that requires the proceeds of items that are sold to be used to acquire other items for collections. The collections are not recognized as assets on the accompanying statements of financial position. Purchases of collection items are recorded as expenses in the year in which the items are purchased.

Fruitlands is a regional museum located 30 miles west of the boston metropolitan area. Fruitlands museum was founded in 1914 by clara endicott sears to commemorate the inspirational ideals of the transcendentalists, the shakers, native americans and 19th century artists of new england. The fruitlands farmhouse is a national historic landmark and the entire property is a national register historic district. Fruitlands attracts visitors to onsite activities, including general admission, off-season programming, concerts, school programs, lectures, facility rentals, and tea room guests as well as off-site outreach programs to schools, senior centers and historical societies.
