The collections, which were acquired through purchases and contributions since the society's inception, are not recognized as assets on the accompanying statements of financial position. Purchases of collection items are recorded as expenses in the year in which the items are acquired. The term endowments represent cumulative earnings and appreciation on permanent endowments that are restricted for: grounds, maintenance and acquisition of collection items and subject to the society's spending policy. The society uses the earnings on its permanent endowments in accordance with donor instructions or its spending policy.”
“In determining the recognition of uncertain tax positions, the society applies a more-likely-than-not recognition threshold and determines the measurement of uncertain tax positions considering the amounts and probabilities of the outcomes that could be realized upon ultimate settlement with taxing authorities. As of june 30, 2025, the society has no uncertain tax positions that qualify for either recognition or disclosure in the financial statements.”
