Our impact radiates out as we grow and plant thousands of native trees for watershed restoration, deliver over a million dollars' worth of local food to people in our community, conduct agricultural sector research, engage hundreds of people in the work of transforming our food system, and help other organizations leverage our expertise. Together, these programs and enterprises are uniquely designed to support the development of a food system that provides eaters with nourishing food while supporting viable local farms and a healthy planet.”

“Our statewide farm business development services to beginning, established and transitioning farms across Vermont reach over 100 farms each year and support new innovations in Vermont's farm economy. These engagements included resource matching and coaching and business planning and succession and transition planning with retiring farmers. We operate Vermont Land Link, our state's online land matching tool, growing membership to over 1,200 farmland seekers and managing active farmland listings. We are constantly innovating and seek new initiatives to help build a stronger community food system in Vermont. For example, we provided management, planning and infrastructure development on two parcels owned by the Vermont Land Trust, Brewster Uplands Conservation Trust in Cambridge, and Pine Island Community Farm in Colchester. We are also managing a grass-based beef sector development project have delved deeply into new land management opportunities for a 4,000+ acre Lower Winooski Valley. We are a founding member in the Vermont Farm and Forest Viability Network and serve as co-chair of the Blueprint for Regional Farm Viability's Policy and Development Committee.”

“We operate the Intervale Conservation Nursery, growing thousands of trees and engaging in land stewardship projects that improve water quality, restore land, and combat climate change. Each year we contribute over 30,000 stems to riparian reforestation projects across Vermont while expanding our land stewardship services to include wetland restoration, pollinator production and invasive species management to landowners across Vermont. This has included softwood tree propagation and the development of an herbaceous perennial pollinator product line. In 2019, we also partnered with Patagonia, Ski Rack, Vermont Gas, One Tree Planted and others to restore riparian buffers in the Intervale, along the Mad River in Waitsfield, and along the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail in Jeffersonville.”

“We operate one of Vermont's leading Gleaning and Food Access programs because everyone has the right to healthy local food. We regularly support over 200 families and 15 social service organizations with free, locally sourced fruits and vegetables. We provide this directly to families at community sites, Intervale pickups and through our own pick your own People's Garden, and now through the expanded People's Farm. We also host pop up farmers' markets at locations such as the Vermont Nursing Association Family Room on Allen Street in Burlington in partnership with the Vermont Foodbank and the Winooski Food Shelf. We also serve as the Co-Chair for the Vermont Gleaning Collective and partner very closely with the Vermont Foodbank and Feeding Chittenden to strengthen food access initiatives in Vermont.”

“We operate the Intervale Food Hub, expanding markets for Vermont producers and linking consumers with the very best local food. The Food Hub buys the best Vermont grown and produced food and sells directly to area residents through home delivery and community pickups and serves wholesale markets like University of Vermont and Vermont Foodbank's Vermonters Feeding Vermonters Program. Each year, we work with over 40 farm and food producers to help them have another market. We are also a founding member of the Vermont Food Hub Collaborative and are supporting the development of a new collaborative marketing effort to bring”

“We manage a significant part of Burlington's Intervale, creating safe, accessible and beautiful recreational opportunities for thousands of families. We manage the gateway to the Intervale and steward over 350 acres and dozens of historic and agriculture buildings. We continue to invest in this amazing community asset with recent upgrades across the Intervale campus including improvements to the Picnic Grove, People's Garden, People's Farm, Alan Gottesman Living Memorial Garden, extensive landscaping and wayfinding, and restoration of Burlington's last intact agricultural farmstead. We continue to deepen our partnership with our neighbors and host the City of Burlington 's Tommy Thompson Community Gardens and the Association of Africans Living in Vermont, and we are a founding member of Burlington Wildways Steering Committee.”

“We engage the community in the power of food and share our expertise to inspire the community food movement everywhere. Each year we host our popular events series, Summervale and Wintervale, and support other community events such as cooking classes, Burlington's largest children's fun run, and many other activities to bring people together with the Intervale. We also host an educational food series off site called The Dish in collaboration with City Market. Each year we provide free monthly tours available to the public and host 400-600 students, government officials, partners, and other individuals and entities interested in our wok from around the world. We also host over 500 volunteers each year, as we continue to provide gleaning, Summervale, land stewardship and Nursery volunteer opportunities in our community. The Intervale Center campus is an Archeology District and registered as a Vermont Registry of Historic Places.”

“Much of this work is made possible because of the generous support of our donors. In 2019, nearly 600 donors contributed to our annual fund with the average small gift size of $50. This included 129 new donors, as well as many corporate and foundation partners who play a significant role in supporting our work.”
