“Team read is an after school and summer tutoring program with the mission of "teens tutoring kids to achieve reading success." our goal is for all our 2nd and 3rd grade students to read at grade level after a year of one-on-one tutoring. We serve seattle schools where assessments show that 2nd and 3rd graders need intensive reading support beyond the classroom. Our year-round support gives vulnerable children the opportunity to regain reading traction, for an equitable chance to succeed in school and life. Our unique model pairs carefully screened and trained teen reading coaches one-on-one with 2nd and 3rd grade students who enter the program reading a year to two years below grade level. The program provides significant benefits for the teen reading coaches who can earn hourly pay (minimum wage), or service learning hours, or save money for college while gaining valuable work skills. Summary of the program and services provided: every child deserves to be, and needs to be a great reader. Team read provides one-on-one reading tutoring for struggling 2nd and 3rd grade readers in 11 of seattle's lowest-performing elementary schools. The elementary schools we partner with consider team read to be a key strategy in providing effective literacy interventions to their students outside of the school day. The innovative program model taps into the skills and commitment teenagers, training them to become great reading coaches and role models. Tutoring pairs meet after school, two days a week to build essential reading skills--vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Team read extends the learning day for students who would otherwise not receive reading support outside the classroom. The curriculum is designed in partnership with literacy experts at seattle public schools (sps) and is aligned with classroom instruction and literacy best practices. Team read works with district administrators and literacy specialists to identify those schools most in need of additional literacy support services outside the school day. Second and third grade teachers refer their student to team read at the beginning of the school year. Typically, the students referred to team read are reading a year or more below grade level. The teen reading coaches are recruited from 15 local middle and high schools. Every tutor completes a thorough screening and training process, participating in five hours of literacy training before they begin working with their elementary reader. The close bond that forms between the teens and their young readers lays the foundation for the program's success. Principals report that students "run to team read" after school for the chance to spend time with a "cool" teenager. The goal of every tutor is to help their student improve their reading skills so they are reading at grade level by the end of the school year. In the summer of 2015, team read partnered with seattle public library (spl) to provide a summer reading program in the summer at 4 library branches. Research has documented the reading loss that low-income students experience over the summer and team read is committed to working with spl to provide summer reading support for the 2nd and 3rd grade students who need the most support and summer jobs for teens. By partnering with spl in this effort, students and families learn about the wide array of free resources available through the library. The students served by team read: the 2nd and 3rd graders who participate in team read are referred by their teachers. Their parents give their permission for them to participate in the program. The following demographic information is consistent from year to year: " 89% students of color " 87% eligible for free/reduced lunch " 42% english language learners the teenagers who participate in team read apply to the program and are carefully screened to ensure that they meet or exceed the program's minimum qualifications (2.7 gpa, excellent essay, excellent attendance and discipline recor”

“The organization as a tax-exempt organization annually files a federal information return (form 990). The organization has adopted provisions of an accounting standard regarding accounting for uncertainties in income taxes. They have evaluated whether it is more likely than not that positions they have taken would result in the recognition of taxable income, or the loss of the organizations tax-exempt status. Based upon its evaluation, the organization has concluded that it is operating in compliance within its tax-exempt status. In addition, the organization has concluded that there are no matters that would create taxable income. Should that status be challenged in the future, the organizations tax returns for 2011 and through the current tax year are open for examination by the internal revenue service.”

| IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | THE ORGANIZATION AS A TAX-EXEMPT ORGANIZATION ANNUALLY FILES A FEDERAL INFORMATION RETURN (FORM 990). SHOULD THAT STATUS BE CHALLENGED IN THE FUTURE, THE ORGANIZATIONS TAX RETURNS FOR 2011 AND THROUGH THE CURRENT TAX YEAR ARE OPEN FOR EXAMINATION BY THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE. |

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | TEAM READ IS AN AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER TUTORING PROGRAM WITH THE MISSION OF "TEENS TUTORING KIDS TO ACHIEVE READING SUCCESS." OUR GOAL IS FOR ALL OUR 2ND AND 3RD GRADE STUDENTS TO READ AT GRADE LEVEL AFTER A YEAR OF ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING. THE FOLLOWING DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION IS CONSISTENT FROM YEAR TO YEAR: " 89% STUDENTS OF COLOR " 87% ELIGIBLE FOR FREE/REDUCED LUNCH " 42% ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS THE TEENAGERS WHO PARTICIPATE IN TEAM READ APPLY TO THE PROGRAM AND ARE CAREFULLY SCREENED TO ENSURE THAT THEY MEET OR EXCEED THE PROGRAM'S MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (2.7 GPA, EXCELLENT ESSAY, EXCELLENT ATTENDANCE AND DISCIPLINE RECOR |
