“The free range pastor (tfrp) is a community chaplaincy that exist to connect people to jesus christ, communities of christ followers, and ultimately the christian church. Tfrp reaches those in the unengaged margins of churches as well as those outside its bounds. By providing pastoral care, spiritual direction, pilgrimages, and community studies, and services of worship, the tfrp meets the spiritual needs discovered in each community. The vision of tfrp developed over 31 years of working within the local church, and the larger denomination of the pca(presbyterian church in america) to extend pastoral services outside the bounds of traditional church buildings and programs. We further discovered that the best way to bring the peace and prosperity that people are longing for is to bring what a church offers (ie.the gospel) directly to people through a pastoral relationship that establishes them into smaller community rather than a large group environment. We are working toward and believe tfrp will develop into a movement of people who love, tend and care for people with no desire or plans to attend a church building/gathering/program. Moreover, we desire and believe this will lead multiple communities of people locally and nationally to become more loving, caring, and prosperous for the sake of all people in their cities in the name of christ and for the sake of christ church. Right now we have one employee (ken leggett) who's living out the work envisioned locally and nationally. Any additional employee(s) will be developed through recruiting, observing, training and mentoring volunteers. If they can demonstrate to the board of directors that their work aids in further developing and mobilizing more individuals who are engaging with, discovering, and meeting the spiritual needs of people in the community they will be considered for potential employees of tfrp. Another area of focus for tfrp is developing partnerships with the local church(s) to address the challenge of the growing percentage of people who are unengaged in the church's margins or have no desire to step into a church building. We do this by recruiting, training, and resourcing their people to join in the mission of tfrp. We do this through influencing, inspiring, training, and mentoring individuals and groups to define and pursue personal and pastoral relationships outside the four walls of their church while offering a welcoming invitation to ultimately join a church community.”
