“The organization makes all governing documents, conflict of interest policies and financial statements available to public upon request.”
“The organization is recognized by the internal revenue service as an exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The organization adopted the provisions of fasb asc 740, the organization income taxes. As required by the uncertain tax position guidance in fasb asc 740, the organization recognizes the financial statement benefit of a tax position only after determining that the relevant tax authority would more likely than not sustain the position after an audit. For tax positions meeting the more likely than not threshold, the amount recognized in the financial statements is the largest benefit that has a greater than fifty percent likelihood of being realized upon ultimate settlement with the relevant tax authority. The organization applied the uncertain tax position guidance in fasb asc 740 to all tax positions for which the statute of limitations had remained open and has not recognized any additional liability. Tax regulations within each jurisdiction are subject to interpretation of the related tax laws and regulations and require significant judgement to apply. With few exceptions, the organization's form 990, return of organization exempt from income tax is no longer subject to u.s. Federal and state examinations by tax authority for the fiscal years ended december 31, 2015 and prior.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | ENVIRONMENT AND WATERSHED PROTECTION AND RESTORATIONPROJECTS IN THIS CATEGORY ARE IMPORTANT TO WATERSHEDS ON EACH ISLAND IN MAUI COUNTY. THESE WATERSHEDS, WHICH ARE IN THE UPLANDS, ARE IMPORTANT TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OF THE LANDS BELOW THEM. IT IS CRUCIAL THAT THESE PROJECTS CONTINUE TO PROTECT ALL LANDS AND ECOSYSTEMS OF OUR AHUPUA'A, THE TRADITIONAL MOUNTAIN-TO-THE-SEA LAND DIVISIONS ON EACH ISLAND. ALL OF MAUI COUNTY'S WATERSHEDS ARE RECIPIENTS OF THESE PROJECTS. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REALIZE THAT THESE WATERSHED PROJECTS, ENJOY PUBLIC FUNDING SUPPORT FROM ALL GOVERNMENTS: FEDERAL, STATE AND COUNTY AND, INCREASINGLY, FROM PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS AS WELL. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT THAT WE BECOME FACILITATIVE AND COLLABORATIVE IN AN INTER-ACTIVE AND INTER-CONNECTED SYSTEM OF WATERSHED PROTECTION, RESTORATION AND MANAGEMENT.ACCOMPLISHMENT: THE PU'U KUKUI WATERSHED RESTORATION AND MANAGEMENT PROJECT (PKW) LOCATED IN MAUNA KAHALAWAI ALSO REFERRED TO AS THE WEST MAUI MOUNTAINS, HAD OVER 2,847 VOLUNTEERS ACCOMPLISHING 10,791 VOLUNTEER HOURS OF RAIN GAUGE CHECKS, INVASIVE SPECIES REMOVAL HIKES, NATIVE TREE PLANTINGS AND NATIVE FOREST RESTORATION PROJECTS. SCIENCE AND RESEARCH EFFORTS, IN COLLABORATION WITH MAUI FOREST BIRD RECOVERY PROGRAM (MFBRP), SURVEYED FROM THE SOUTH BORDER REGION TO THE SUMMIT OF PU'U KUKUI AND IDENTIFIED 163 'APAPANE, 62 HAWAI'I 'AMAKIHI, 5 'I'IWI, 142 JAPANESE BUSH-WARBLER, 77 JAPANESE WHITE-EYE AND 64 RED-BILLED LEIOTHRIX. A COMBINED RAINFALL WAS RECORDED AND GAUGED OVER 525 INCHES THROUGHOUT 2018. OUTREACH EFFORTS INCLUDED OVER 3000 IMPRESSIONS BY WAY OF KAPALUA GOLF TOURNAMENT, SPECIAL EVENTS THROUGHOUT MAUI COUNTY AND BEYOND.ACCOMPLISHMENT: THE LEEWARD HALEAKALA WATERSHED RESTORATION PARTNERSHIP (LHWRP) LOCATED ON THE LEEWARD SLOPES OF HALEAKALA, OVERSAW THE CONSTRUCTION AND COMPLETION OF 1.17 MILE OF FENCING TO INCLUDE KAUPO RANCH REGION AND CREATED A COMMUNITY WILDFIRE PROTECTION PLAN FOR HALEAKALA'S SOUTHWEST SLOPE FROM KAHIKINUI TO KAUPO IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PACIFIC FIRE EXCHANGE AND HAWAII WILDFIRE MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION (HWMO). FURTHER, LHWRP WORKED WITH NUMEROUS LANDOWNERS, ONE OF WHICH IS KAUPO RANCH, WHERE THE NOW ESTABLISHED BASE CAMP INCLUDES A RAISED/HELICOPTER LANDING ZONE, WATER CATCHMENT SYSTEM FOR SANITIZATION AND IRRIGATION PURPOSES, ON-SITE NATIVE PLANT NURSERY AND GREEN HOUSE. THIS BASE CAMP WILL RELIEVE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF HELICOPTER FEES, AND CAPACITATE LHWRP TEAM MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS IN RESTORATION AND SOIL REGENERATION CAMPING EFFORTS. FINALLY, AT THE CLOSING OF 2018, THE INSTALLATION OF AN EDUCATIONAL/ INFORMATIONAL SIGN WAS INSTALLED AND LOCATED ON THE MAIN PI'ILANI HIGHWAY IN THE KAHIKINUI REGION WHICH WILL ENHANCE AND BRING EDUCATIONAL AWARENESS OF THE PRECIOUS NATIVE ECOSYSTEM BOTH BENEFITING THE LOCAL AND VISITOR POPULACE. |

OUR MISSION WAS EXPANDED, THROUGH A STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS IN 2012, AND REVISED IN 2015, TO INCLUDE PROJECTS THAT BUILD, NURTURE AND IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THE PEOPLE LIVING IN OUR COMMUNITIES. THESE PROJECTS CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIAL, CULTURAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND POLITICAL FACTORS IMPORTANT TO CIVIC AND COMMUNITY LIFE ON ALL THE ISLANDS OF MAUI COUNTY. THESE PROJECTS BECOME MORE IMPORTANT AS THE POPULATION OF MAUI COUNTY CONTINUES TO GROW BOTH IN NUMBERS AND DIVERSITY.
