“Monitoring and enforcement of compliance with conflict of interest policy At UHN, employees, medical staff and independent contractors who are authorized to make decisions on UHN's behalf, must disclose any perceived or actual conflict of interest. Discipline, including termination, may result if any of the above were found to be in breach of this condition. To ensure compliance, UHN has set up a 'whistle-blower' line in which a person, who could remain anonymous, would let management know of a possible breach of this policy. Also, material contracts must go through a formal bidding process and must abide by the procurement policy. Using privileged or personal information for personal gain is a critical concern for the UHN and therefore only employees who require access to such information will be able to retrieve it, and their access will be logged. If the facts warrant a review of a potential conflict of interest, or staff comes forward to management with concerns, then UHN will undertake a review to determine whether a conflict of interest exists.
