Food and water (eep,esm).reducing hunger and starvation in the world by providing secure water supplies and a stable food supply is another global problem area that lends itself to the systems analysis approach taken by iiasa researchers. Food and water researchers at iiasa focus on securing future food and water supply and distribution; safeguarding sustainable seafood and ecosystems; optimizing multiple uses of terrestrial ecosystem services; and managing and sharing scarce freshwater resources.

Activity 3

Poverty and equity (rpv, pop).iiasa research into poverty and equity is designed to pose new questions that shed light on the dimensions of poverty, and to develop new methods that untangle the web of interrelated influences that determine levels of human development and wellbeing. Iiasa's poverty and equity researchers bring a systems analysis approach to exploring social, economic, environmental and political drivers that create inequities. The institute's research themes are focused on the dynamics of poverty and on the policies needed to deal with them in specific and localized policy-making and political contexts.
