“Program service accomplishments”

“In collaboration with the SEMS youth, we created another original, tolerance-promoting play, this time for the benefit of local elementary school youth. We reached out to a number of South Los Angeles elementary schools and invited the students to share stories about the bullying they experienced. We received dozens of heart-breaking stories. Our middle school youth dramatized the children's stories as engaging, thought-provoking short plays, monologues and Spoken Word pieces. In May 2018, we worked with the writer/performers to tour their original pieces along with favorite Cootie Shots pieces in a production titled Stand Up & Speak Out! to local elementary schools, empowering another generation of kids to learn how to "Stand Up & Speak Out!" and stop discrimination in its tracks. As a result, most of the 1,000 young audience members who said they would not intervene in bullying instances committed to intervening in positive ways after seeing the show.”
