Activity 2

Viva technology! A k-12 national science, technology, math and engineering awareness program offered at schools across the nation for teachers, parents and students in a 3-day format, a 10-week after-school program or a 1-hour assembly. The 3-day program features hands-on activities for students with hispanic engingeers and scientists as guest speakers; workshops and educational tools for teachers; and informative workshops for parents to learn about careers in engineering and science, the academic preparation required for college entrance in these fields of study and guides to colleges, universities and scholarship programs. A master calendar of viva technology events and sponsors is on the henaac website and it is featured quarterly in a national publication. The henaac website features a role model for the current week and lists past and present henaac award recipients. It has a streaming video of the awards show, hall of fame inductees, announcements, master calendar of events, scholarship information and applications, henaac conference information and registration, as well as viva technology program and event information.

Activity 3

In late 2008 the los angeles district of the u.s. Army corps of engineers, department of the army, awarded the organization a five-year contract to provide a pilot educational program called the henaac value chain and initiative (hvci) in the east los angeles community surrounding a local high school. The purpose of this program is to expand local community awareness of the future opportunities and education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (stem) may afford and to encourage students to pursue these educational fields.
