Activity 2

Public Programs IDA puts on several public programs each year to promote documentary filmmaking. IDA Documentary Awards The 28th Annual IDA Documentary Awards honored and recognized outstanding documentary films and filmmakers. The award-winners included Searching for Sugarman for Best Feature dir. Malik Bendjelloul and Saving Face for Best Short dirs. Daniel Junge Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy - both voted winners by the IDA member base. Searching for Sugarman went on to win the Oscar for best documentary. Highlights of the ceremony included a presentation by Bob Eubanks who awarded Arnold Shapiro Scared Straight and Scared Silent Exposing and Ending Child Abuse with the Career Achievement award. Docu Weeks The 16th annual DocuWeeks, screened short and feature length documentaries to appreciative audiences in theatrical runs designed to qualify the films for consideration for the Academy Awards. Since its debut in 1997, DocuWeeks has helped 211 films qualify for the Oscar, with 21 documentaries going on to be nominated and 7 winning the coveted award.

Activity 3

Filmmaker Services IDA provides the essential information, services, tools, and grants required by documentary filmmakers to successfully engage in their art. Filmmaker services include IDA Membership - As of 12/31/12, a total of 1,726 paid members received valuable benefits and opportunities including a complimentary subscription to Documentary Magazine. Documentary Magazine - is a quarterly publication that offer essential information and keeps readers on track with the industry. Each issue is sent to all IDA members as well as 284 other subscribers in the United States and around the world. Another approximately 1,525 copies are distributed via newsstands and bookstores. Documentary.org - is a vital portal into the industry that provides up-to-date information and opportunities to connect with the doumentary film world, In 2012, the site was viewed by 534,681 unique visitors and there were more than 1,047,707 page views. The Pare Lorentz Documentary Fund - provided grants totalling 75,000 for five films made possible by a grant from the
