FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1, DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION MISSION:

The mission of the beverly hills bar association is to serve our members, lead our profession and to advocate for justice in our community.

FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A, PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Beverly hills bar association and beverly hills bar association personnel referral service, inc., collectively, are defined as "the association." the association is a nationally recognized major metropolitan bar association based in beverly hills, california and serves more than 18,000 lawyers who live or work on the west side of los angeles county. The mission of the association is to serve its members, to lead its profession and advocate for justice in its community. To these ends, the association operates the following programs: membership activities: this program focuses primarily on providing mandatory continuing legal education ("mcle") courses for attorneys in fifteen substantive law practice areas, over fifty percent of which are presented as live webcasts per year, the association also maintains mcle records for attendees of association education programs and sends members a recap of the mcle programs they attend on an annual basis. Members may improve their leadership skills through participation in section/committee executive committees and the board of governors. Members may also take advantage of a range or members' benefits and services including low-cost insurance rates, pension, acturial and tax deferral services suitable for legal practitioners ranging from sole practitioners to large firms, legal research services and more. These members benefit agreements, along with event and section sponsorship, increase revenues for the association. Committee activities: the association sponsors a number of public service activities. The "roxbury park legal clinic," a free monthly workship for the public to consult with attorneys and the "committee for the arts," which offers legal and business oriented programs for artists and musicians. Continuting education programs: thorugh this program, members are able to fulfill the state bar-mandated requirements for continuing legal education. Each year, nearly 200 states bar-approved courses are offered on leading edge topics of interest in each practice area. Barristers' activities: the barristers program is an important resource for newer attorneys (under age thirty-seven or practicing ten years or less). This program includes community outreach activities and social events geared to new attorneys. Dinners/congerences/conventions: members are offered the opportunity to attend various annual state bar convention activities, a supreme court luncheon, swearing in at the supreme court of the united states and other receptions, dinners and conferences. Printed material/publications: the association provides mcle dvds and other mcle material in its web store. Legislative activities: members of the resolutions committee and legislative committee may write and/or lobby for legislation and testify before the california legislature. Through the association's seat in the american bar association's house of delegates, members may also affect national policy and legal matters. Lawyer's fee arbitration: the association operates one of the only two state bar-approved mandatory fee arbitration programs servicing los angleles county. Attorneys are trained to serve as arbitrators for attorney-client fee disputes. Participants provide a valuable service while gaining judicial experience. Lawyer's referral/information services: the association maintains a state bar-approved lawyer approved referral service that matches individuals seeking attorneys for personal or professional matters with member attorneys. Placement services: the personnel referral service provides screened and tested permanent and temporary legal secretaries and other support personnel.

PART XI, LINE 2C:

The audit oversight committee has not changed its process since the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

Part X, Line 2

The association applies the provisions of financial accounting standards board ("fasb") accounting standards codification ("asc") topic no. 740, "accounting for uncertainty in income taxes" ("asc 740"). Asc 740 clarifies the uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an enterprise's financial statements and prescribes a recognition and measurement of a tax position taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. Asc 740 requires that an organization recognize in the financial statements the impact of the tax position if that position will more likely than not be sustained on audit, based on the technical merits of the position. As of and for the years ended september 30, 2018 and 2017, the association had no unrecognized/derecognized tax benefits or tax penalties or interest.
