DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Building a More Walkable City: Walk San Francisco worked with community groups and city agencies to release the city's first-ever Pedestrian Strategy in April 2013. The Strategy encourages more walking, cuts pedestrian injuries and fatalities in half, and systematically improves the city's streets to favor safe, sustainable transportation. Throughout 2013, Walk San Francisco worked with city agencies responsible for engineering and enforcing streets to provide input on the implementation of the Pedestrian Strategy. Walk San Francisco also worked with members and volunteers to raise awareness of the need for safer, more walkable streets citywide. Through events and other outreach, we educated community members and brought public input to support new and effective strategies to calm traffic, enforce traffic safety, design streets and developments for better walking, and reach parks and open space easilyall to create safe and welcoming public space for everyone to enjoy.$60,072-
Green Connections: In 2013, Walk SF worked with city and community partners to define and map a citywide network of Green Connections to help people walk to open space along corridors that are safe and inviting, and provide environmental benefits with landscaping for stormwater and habitat for native flora, insects, and birds. The ultimate goal of this project is to connect low-income areas where many seniors and children liveBayview-Hunters Point, the Tenderloin, Chinatown, Western Addition, Visitacion Valley, and Potrero Hillto enable residents to walk to open space along greener, safer, more pleasant streets. Over 950 community members provided input on the final draft of the Green Connections plan through 6 neighborhood meetings, one open house event, and an online community survey. The final draft Green Connections Plan was completed in 2013 and presented to the public for input. Walk SF helped facilitate neighborhood meetings and the open house, both of which received a lot of positive feedback from community residents who were eager to see street improvements with multiple benefits (livability, sustainability, and biodiversity) come to life.$14,582-
Safer Streets Around Schools: In 2013, Walk San Francisco continued its participation in the San Francisco Safe Routes to Schools Partnership and worked with parents, community leaders, and city agencies to host Walk and Roll to School Day. The event engaged over 70 schools and 13,000 students across San Francisco to walk and roll to school.$6,106-
