Mission

Mercy foundation north raises, manages and distributes philanthropic support to benefit the sponsored and supported works of the sisters of mercy of the americas in the counties of shasta, tehama and siskiyou, in northern california. This philanthropic support primarily benefits programs and services of the following hospitals/organizations of dignity health, a california public benefit corporation: mercy medical center redding,st. Elizabeth community hospital, mercy medical center mt. Shasta, and dignity health connected living. Supported programs benefit the poor, sick, uneducated, elderly and/or distressed, including healthcare, education, social services, elderly and/or assistance to the disadvantaged and or/distressed. The foundation manages a fund development program that is multifaceted. The main office is located in redding, ca. Outlying offices are located in red bluff, ca and mt. Shasta, ca. The foundation implements annual giving, major giving and planned giving activities.

Raising philanthropic support and community awareness for the ministries of the sisters of mercy of the americas.

The corporate members of the foundation have reserved rights. Their reserved rights are as follows: i. Approve the mission, philosophy, long-range goals, stragegic plans and major standards of the foundation ii. Appoint and remove each member of the board of trustees iii. Determine the number of members of the board of trustees iv. Approve the appointment of the chair and secretary of the foundation v. Appoint and/or remove the foundation president vi. Approve the capital and operating budgets of the foundation vii. Receive the annual auditors report to the foundation viii. Approve the selection of the auditors and general legal counsel for the foundation ix. Approve any amendment or restatement of the articles of incorporation and bylaws of the foundation x. Approve any merger, consolidation or dissolution of the foundation xi. Approve the establishment of any new constituent foundation or any subsidiary corporation or operating corporation of the foundation xii. Approve any borrowing of money or incurring of indebtedness by the foundation xiii. Approve the purchase of real estate assets or any interest therein xiv. The mercy foundation audit committee will review the 990 before submission. Then the 990 will be made available to the board upon request.

To ensure compliance with this policy,individuals are required to submit a conflict of interest disclosure statement annually. All other employees are required to disclose to their immediate supervisors, or to the dignity health compliance officer, any real or potential conflicts of interest prior to making any decision or taking any action that is or may be affected by the conflict. Supervisors may consult with the dignity health compliance officer for assistance in resolving such conflicts. Mercy foundation north board members all complete an annual "conflict of interest" disclosure form. Responses are reviewed by the president and board chair and acted upon appropriately. The dignity health legal counsel reviews the board conflict of interest form on a periodic basis.

The president, four staff members and a contracted planned giving specialist provide support to the operations of mercy foundation north. Staff and board/committee members work to raise financial support to benefit the projects (capital, programs and operations) of the organizations listed. The foundation engages in key capital campaigns to garner significant support for these organizations. The foundation strives to be donor centered in its approach. Gifts come from one-on-one contact with donors, mail, grants, planned gifts (bequests, charitable gift annuities, life estates, charitable remainder trusts), on-line gifts, other organizations, and businesses. The foundation maintains close contact with leadership, staff, volunteers and/or physicians at the four organizations referenced above.
