“With support from family foundations and the Anthropocene Institute, we advanced the Geoversity 2030 Bamboo Ark Campaign aimed at establishing the Geoversity Fellowship growing to a network of 1,000 rising biocultural leaders under the direction of Juan Carlos Monterrey. The campaign also involves the conduct of coastal expeditions in the Americas on high-tech bamboo sailing vessels equipped to engage millions and major events and media in global gatherings. A team of expert boat builders in the Netherlands began the construction of Bamboo Ark v1, a 12-meter catamaran with hulls in the shape of traditional Guna and Embera dugouts. We also started the formation of an international advisory board.”

“With Danish development assistance, a new SMART phone and GIS based field monitoring systems has been established in the Mamoni Valley handled by territorial guardians made up by representatives from all four communities in the valley. This is an enormously important achievement considering that these cattle ranging communities previous resistance to conservation efforts. This work is a part of the Diammayala initiative where both valley dwellers and our neighboring indigenous communities have also been trained in political advocacy and environmental and human rights issues with the purpose of promoting and enabling a collectively defense of the three most important watersheds in Panama, including Mamoni. As treats to nature, including humans living in these watersheds are being mapped, joint efforts between cultures and territories are now being planned for, making use of the newly acquired skills.”
